On the staff development days, we arranged different talks and workshops. Firstly, we had the Kwai Tsing Joint School Development Day. The morning session was a talk about Communication with the Youth and Fostering Teachers Passion hosted by Dr. Choi Yuen Wan and Mr. Choi Lim Ming. The afternoon session aimed at building positive rapport between the staff and the students. Teachers found that the appreciation and encouragement from our colleagues helped establish the good rapport. Secondly, we conducted a Positive Education Workshop, hosted by Dr. Janet Leung. Most of the teachers agreed that the workshop offered them a chance to understand more about themselves and our colleagues. Teachers retreat was held in the afternoon. Teachers treasured the time of retreat with sharing and mutual support. On the third staff development day, we had A Mindfulness Workshop for Teachers by Miss Christine Cheung and Understanding Yourself and People around You: Live and Work in Harmony with the 16 Personality Types Workshop by Miss Rainey Chik. Teachers could participate in one of the workshops. The experiential workshop on mindfulness was very well-received by the participating teachers. Those teachers participated in the Understanding Yourself and People around You Workshop commented that the link provided for teachers to self-analyze was useful. In the afternoon session, the panel members of Chinese Language, Integrated Science and Physics Departments shared their experiences on e-learning. Teachers found that the sharing session on e-learning was useful for improving their teaching. The movie Weeds on Fire was shown in the Lecture Theatre. Teachers found such experience relaxing and meaningful. Our mentorship scheme has been implemented for many years to develop the professionalism of new teachers and teaching assistants. Five teachers were appointed as the mentors to give advice and support to the new teaching staff in this academic year. In order to establish close links with tertiary teacher training institutions and to nurture the next generations of teachers, we arranged teaching practices for the student teachers from tertiary institutions. We still had the school-university partnership with HKU. The new programme, one-day-per-week school experience, started in this academic year. We offered the teaching practice placement for four PGDE students, including Chinese Language, English Language, Liberal Studies and Chemistry. Two student teachers who are our alumni also completed their teaching practicum in our school. It was a valuable chance for our teachers to share their expertise and serve the Annual School Report 2016/17 4
