New After-School Activities Sewing Club - Update! Please note that this new activity, starting next week, (we reported about it in last week s Parent Bulletin) is open to students from Grade 5-12 and not for Grades 4 and 5. Students will be put into groups according to their age. If your child is interested, please inform the School Office. A room/rooms will be allocated once we know how many students will be participating. Trip to Animal Shelter Last Friday morning, 23 February, Grade 4 visited the Bremen Animal Shelter. Eleni s mother provided a generous amount of dog and cat food, toys and treats and the students were able to donate close to 100 euros. The shelter posted about this donation on their Facebook page and mentioned it was one of the biggest donations (if not the biggest) they ve received from a school. Homeroom teacher Mrs Jernigan and the ISB are very proud of them. http://www.photos-public-domain Design Thinking - Challenging Your Mindset! A reminder that this club will be starting on Tuesday, 13 March, 3.05-4.00pm, Room 208 (Second Floor, Science Dept.). Library News Bremen Inter-School Chess Tournament On Wednesday of this week, five ISB teams went a- long to the Weser Stadium and took part in the Bremen Inter-School Chess Tournament. Both Elementary and Secondary teams were marvellous ambassadors for our school. They showed team spirit, concentration, resilience and excellent behaviour under testing whole -day competition conditions. They also brilliantly represented the learner profile values of our school. Congratulations go to the Boys 13 and under team who took 3rd place, receiving a trophy and medals. All team members received certificates of participation as well as 5 House Points each. Thank you to staff and parents for allowing the students to participate and a very big thank you to Mrs Alsebaie as well as Mr and Mrs Zeppenfeld for accompanying the Elementary team. Thanks also go to Mr. Tignor for accompanying the Secondary teams and for coaching at both competitions as well as for his Chess Club on Thursday afternoons in the ISB Library for students from Grade 1 upwards. Ist ISB Quiz Night Last Friday, 23 February, Grade 11 students, in particular those taking IB Physics, put on a Quiz Night as a fundraiser for their field trip to Geneva in May. The idea of the event itself was to have various groups of adults and students being asked questions in a very nice, chilled atmosphere. The group who correctly answered the most questions was to receive a prize at the end. During the event various types of drinks, snacks and hot food were on sale at a very reasonable price. Many more people attended the event than was expected which we were very pleased about. To help fund the event, students had asked some companies such as the Rytle company for a little sponsorship so we were able to offer, for example, alcoholic beverages and other types of snacks and food. As we learnt from the participants, the Quiz Night was a pretty successful event and it is likely to be repeated in the near future. In the end, we made enough money to help finance the trip and even to afford ourselves a nice dinner in Geneva! Thank you to all sponsors, the PTA and everyone that attended that made the 1st ISB Quiz Night such a success. By Patrick, Grade 11 The winning team... 4 Parent Bulletin 2 March 2018

University and Career Guidance Counselling (Grades 9-12) Important Note! Due to the absence of Mrs Evans (see front page), any issues related to entry into universities anywhere in the world this year should be directed now to Mr Davis or Mr Walton. Grade 12 Applications Those who have applied to UK institutions will hear back before March and will have to accept after the IB results are out. Please check the conditional offers for information that the universities request in addition to what you have already provided. The deadlines for some US colleges are rolling, meaning that applications to these institutions can still be made. See Mrs Evans for more information. All Other Universities Teachers will not give you a letter of recommendation directly. You will have to see Mrs Evans to request one or, if you have requested it directly from a teacher, you will have to ask Mrs Evans to send it to the university that requests it. A recommendation from a teacher is a professional reference and, as such, you will not get to see it. All other applications should be nearly complete by now so, if you require additional documents (this will be stipulated during the specific application procedure), see Mrs Evans at least 2 weeks before it is required by the institution. May + June July 5 DEADLINES, FAIRS + TESTS Grade 12 receives offers and replies from universities IB results published If you have questions on any of the above, please contact Mr Davis or Mr Walton. 2 March 2018 Parent Bulletin 5

House News House Points Here are this week s results as per the end of Thursday, 1 March 2018. The Results of This Week The changes to the House Point table this week are all down to the excellent work and the individual House Points collected by students from all Grades. A job very well done by all of those collecting points! The race for the trophy will hot up even further next week as the Secondary students play it out on the Basketball Court for the honour of being crowned House Basketball Champions! House Clothes House t-shirts (and other good quality house clothing items) can be ordered from the company Meinecke Promotion, situated just north of Bremen. Please go to their website http://www.isbremenshop.de/shop/ to place your order. Once you have placed the t-shirt in the basket online, please be aware that you need to go back out of the basket to the article you require on the main homepage and click on the button Add Your House Print otherwise your t-shirt will only have the school logo on the front, but no house logo on the back! 6 Parent Bulletin 2 March 2018
