Welcome As we move into Semester 2, I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation for the past semester. I look forward to your good partnership to bring about another enriching semester for your child/ward. 2. Our Achievements a. It is my pleasure to share with you that the school has been awarded Niche Status for Media Literacy by MOE. With this status and the support from MOE, the school will work towards providing students a rich experience to achieve the following: i. Appreciation of fine arts, design and media products ii. Acquisition of visual and media literacy skills iii. Demonstrate and promote values through media production b. Students shall be equipped to be discerning media users and be empowered to more effectively communicate values and belief. In achieving this goal, both staff and students will be scheduled for media literacy related training. c. The MediaComm Club has once again done the school proud by clinching 2 nd place for their winning entry entitled The Chronicles of Iris and Whiz at the Singapore International Children s Film Festival Competition. d. The Malay Dance Club and Concert Band, Sembwinds, were awarded Certificate of Distinction and Certificate of Accomplishment respectively at 2013 Singapore Youth Festival Art Presentation. 4. Update on Healthy Canteen Programme (HSCP) I am pleased to inform you that we have successfully implemented HSCP with your strong support. Most of our students have already developed the good habit of eating a balanced meal consisting of food groups like rice or noodles, meat, vegetables and fruits. 5. Health Related Matters a. Temperature Taking Exercise Please be informed that all students and staff will be involved in temperature taking exercise from 2 Jul to 4 Jul 2013. All students are required to bring their personal working oral digital thermometer (ODT) to school, failing which they are required to purchase one from bookshop at a cost of $5.00 per thermometer during the exercise. The trigger temperature for students is 37.6 deg Celsius. Students who run a body temperature of 37.6 deg Celsius or above will be advised to consult a doctor and stay at home until they are fully recovered. b. Haze SOP Please refer to a separate letter for greater details. 9. Attendance and Punctuality We continue to seek your support to ensure that your child/ward be punctual for school and attend school regularly unless he/she is unwell. It is also very important for your child/ward to attend CCA regularly as CCA is fundamental in developing your child s/ward s character. Please be informed that CCA attendance will be recorded in the Progress Slip and Holistic Development Profile (HDP). Irregular attendance for school and/or CCA will result in adverse conduct grading. Kindly remind your child/ward to submit Medical Certificate/Parent s Letter within 7 days upon returning to school. Failing which, the absence will be deemed as truancy which may result in disciplinary action. 10. Let us continue to work together for the best of our students in the semester ahead.
