Part A The Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. A. On the basis of the assessment report and the experience gained over the years in attempting to implement its suggestions the year -12 began with the following orientation as to guide the life of the institution: 1. It was felt that utmost priority had to be given towards enhancing the quality of the teaching faculty in line with the NACC recommendations as to ensure their self-fulfilment as well as commitment on which alone the future of the institution could be built. To achieve this goal it was suggested that besides the facilities already provided it was decided to pursue with government to obtain Grand-in-Aid which will enable the institution to provide the staff with enhanced salary which would invite better qualified and experienced teaching staff. 2. It was observed that the efforts at innovating the teaching learning received impetus from the setting up of the Language lab as it elicited increased involvement of the students. However, the need was felt for stress on the co-curricular activities and in providing an attractive campus with meaningful and monitored group activities. To achieve this goal it was suggested that a Campus Ministry Coordinator be appointed specifically to look into student welfare and their co-curricular activities. An office space for the coordinator too was envisaged on the floor where lecture halls are located by shifting the present equipment room. 3. It was envisaged that while they pursue regular degree course the Career Oriented Programmes benefit students in planning their respective future careers the social commitment of the institution to the locality in providing access to the disadvantaged could truly be catered to only through the distance mode of education being made available through the IGNOU study centre. To achieve this goal of meaningful participation in the life of the locality it was decided to set up an IGNOU Coordinators. 4. After obtaining Grand-in-Aid we shall further seek 2B Status from the UGC and seek all assistance from it for development of the college. 5. Prevent drop outs through special scholarship for weak students. A number of students are from remote rural background some of them real sacrifice to reach here to pursue their studies. In the process of their stay here they find difficult to maintain themselves financially. Such students will be helped out either through scholarship or loan from the college. Thus this students are able to continue their studies undisturbed and prevent drop out

B. An assessment of the year -12 reveals that: 4 1. Though we have had a number of able teachers coming to us and eager to serve the institution, either their own future prospects for further study or family related compulsions have drawn them away not least being also the monetary considerations. Therefore, it has been proposed taking the advantage that Don Bosco College, Maram has been widely acclaimed as the best College in the state and in university, that the institution should pursue strongly to avail financial assistance from the government to towards salary. 2. The student interest and enthusiasm in teaching learning has been sustained to a great extent and the personal follow up by the mentors of students, Coordinators of various groups and clubs could provide spirited life in the campus appreciably observed by the students and visiting dignitaries. The student council and the clubs were better animated through the active role played by the staff in animating the co-curricular activities of the students through their groups and clubs. 3. The college is situated in a state where there are constant occurrences of inter-tribal feuds and rivalry. In this context the College is been declared as a Peace Zone and takes initiatives to promote peace and mutual understanding among the students of various tribes. Often the students experience violence and conflict in their village set ups. However, the college provides a campus where they live in harmony and mutual understanding; whereby the students in the campus learn to live in peace and harmony with each other. Part B 1. Bidyalaxmi, Miss Minorca Chanu, Kamei Jianthuliu, Sanjoy Singh, Pinky Devi, Sanatomba Singh. o The IGNOU study centre got a new coordinator in the person of Mathias Thekba, M.A. to monitor the special service the college does to reach out to the disadvantaged in the neighbourhood of the college. o Hosting and Organizing Seminars and workshops are a means by which the status of the institution as a higher education centre is gradually coming to be acknowledged in the locality, the university and the region.

o The Celebration of the Annual Cultural Day, an annual event is an occasion to recognize, acknowledge and honour the various tribal groups represented in the student body hailing from different tribes of North East India. o Annual Spiritual Convention for all the students is an annual feature and this year it was conducted by a youth retreat team from Shillong led by Fr. Devasia Vazhayil sdb in the month of October. o The college staged two mega events this year namely: a) The Rex Band Show a national musical band; b) staging of the Othelo an English Drama. o Scholarship cell was formed under the guidance of Fr. New academic programmes initiated (UG): BCA was introduced. The first college to introduce BCA college in Manipur University. 3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: a. The Career Oriented Programmes have been inserted into the regular day s schedule as to enable the student cope with all three of the programmes offered during the year. The trimester wise scheduling of classes makes this provision viable. b. The Remedial classes for the weaker students have been scheduled in the beginning of the year. 4. New programmes started: A three year Professional UG course in Bachelor in Computer Applications was started to give the students who wants to take the benefit of the IT revolution in India. With the introduction of this course the college earned the distinction of being the first institution to offer BCA other than the Manipur University. 5. Examination reforms implemented: The Introduction of the Annual Examination System has brought in a time bound teaching schedule especially in the first year, and the delayed beginning of the year due to election related postponement of examinations of the previous year have made the adjustments of classes necessary and extra classes have been introduced to make up for the lost time.

7 The exams were held in each trimester and besides, each department was encouraged to do continuous evaluation with weekly tests and assessment of student performance. The practice of student learning through self study and assignments, as well as student seminars has been undertaken by the different departments. 6. Publications The Department of Chemistry published a science magazine entitled: Mosaic Beauty, in collaboration with the department of science. 6. Initiative towards faculty development programme: There were regular lay staff animation, once a month, (by one or the other religious staff or visitor) and regular staff study circles, once a week, (to share their updating in the subject). The Visit of the Founder Body President, Rev. Dr. James Poonthuruthil sdb (date ) was an occasion at which the staff could share their experience on the campus and make suggestions. On the penultimate day they were addressed on the Salesian Characteristics of Higher Education. The occasion of the visit of Rev Dr Joachim D Souza, the Regional Councillor, Rome on 14-15 October, he addressed the staff and students emphasizing the Role of Educative Community in the formation of Individual.

The prestigious Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Award (IGNSS) is conferred on Don Bosco College, Maram and Sr. Stella Thomas (commonly known as Sr. Arpita Therese) belonging to the congregation of Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate(SMMI), for the best programme officer of NSS for the year - 2012.Don Bosco College Maram (DBCMaram), established in 2000, is a degree college in the tribal and hilly area of Manipur. DBCMaram is the first college to be selected nationally for such prestigious award from Manipur ever since the award was established in the year 1969. Fr. Benny James SDB, the principal of Don Bosco College, Maram and Sr. Arpita Therese received the award from the President of the country in a very colourful and impressive ceremony that was organized in the Darbar Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 19 November 2012.A cash award of Rs. 70000/- and a trophy and Rs. 20000/-, citation and a medal were conferred on the college and the Programme Officer respectively. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India has instituted the Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards to recongnise the Voluntary Service rendered by NSS volunteers, Programmes Officers, NSS Units and Colleges. These awards were instituted in the year 1993-1994. Since then, these awards are given away every year at four levels namely University, Programme Officer, NSS Unit and NSS Volunteer. It is expected that these awards will encourage the awardees to work with more dedication for the community development in future. Sr. Arpita Therese hails from Kerala and has been serving as a lecturer in Don Bosco College Maram, Manipur in the department of English since 2007. From 2009 onwards, she has been actively involved in the NSS unit of the college as tireless programme officer. National Service scheme (NSS) is a Governmental and the biggest organization of the youth was launched on 24 th Sept. 1969, with its motto, Not me But You. She is also the coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of the college,

12 which was launched in under Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS). The NSS in Don Bosco College, Maram has seen new heights under the leadership and encouragement given by the Management, the Principal, Vice Principal, staff and student community and the different stake holders of the College. In the past years, she has helped volunteers to explore their talents with many exposure programmes. This is seen in the regular participation of at least one volunteer in the Republic day parade, Adventurous camps, Exchange programs in China etc. Sr. Stella also had taken part in several training programmes both at National and Regional levels. Some of the commendable activities carried out under her leadership are Voluntary Blood Donation, Tree plantation, Cleanliness drive, Repair of NH 39, HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign, Outreach Programmes to the neighbouring schools, Special camping in the adopted villages and a host of other activities. A total of 1 University, 10 colleges, 10 programme officers and 30 volunteers received the national award today from the Honourable President of the Country Shri. Pranab Mukherjee. Don Bosco College, Maram with the assistance of Government of Manipur, Manipur University and different supportive agencies have grown to be a household name in educational field. The number of students in the college has increased in the recent years with the introduction of new courses like BCA, BSW etc. DBCMaram has become a centre of learning and excellence. This national award had brought in lots of joy and commitment among the Bosconians of Maram to be more centred on youth development and educational enterprise among the needy young people of today. 16. Internal resources generated: The College is run by the fees of the students. However, the investments in infrastructure and furnishing are solely seen to by the founder body of the college. 17. Community services: The Outreach and extension of Youth Services under the leadership of various groups, clubs and movements Ramlung, New Maram, Maram Khullen, Kabinam, Kavanam, Maram Centre, Maram Bazar, New Magamei and New Ramlung; Various group like NSS, Jesus Youth, Alumini, Campus ministry, various college hostels The Department of Chemistry helped the various above mentioned villages by sampling the quality of drinking water. Helped the villagers to be aware of using clean water for drinking. 32 students of economically back families from the neighbour are fully supported for their school education by paying their full school fees, uniform, textbooks, shoes, notes books, etc., from classes 1 to 10. The computer centre at the college besides conducting certificate courses in computer also gives free training in computer to drop out students from the neighbouring villages.

13 The College organises extension programmes during vacation to Arunachal Pradesh to conscientize the villagers regarding health and education. It is a programme that is early looked up to by these villagers. The clubs have planned their activities for the year and they are marked on the college calendar. The Clubs Literary, Sports, Computer, Music, Harmony, - did various activities like organizing Music Talent show, intra and inter college tournaments, computer contests, literary wall magazines and interfaith prayer sessions. The Independence Day, the Bosco Day, college annual day, Gandhi Jayanti, environmental day, women day, respectively were occasions for the college community to reach out to the locality and communicate its seriousness in bringing education and over all welfare. 19. At the end of each trimester the students make an overall evaluation of the trimester. Each honours subject teacher is evaluated at the end of the course and the feedback thus given through the questionnaire is made available to the teacher concerned for further improvement and/or necessary action. 24. Computerisation of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificates: For admission purpose the prospectus is printed annually. The admission details are made known through the website as well as advertisement in local newspapers and local T.V channels. The trimester examination results are made available on the Intranet and promotion test and selection test marks are send to the parents of the students. The student data recorded in personal files and the statistics are preserved in the office computer. 26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities: Purchase of Computers for the offices, staff rooms and replacement of parts for up gradation of machines in the student labs have been done. The College administrative offices are fully computerised. The BIIT is equipped with facilities for the students like: Wimax-internet connection, Xerox, Passport size photo printing, fax, lamination, etc. The IGNOU office has been furnished with Wimax-internet connection. At the reception the staff and students are provided with information, Xerox machine, Phone Booth and lamination The Library, and Departments are also computerised, library also provides both the staff and students with Xerox facilities. 27. Technology Up-gradation: V-SAT technology of the Hughes Company has been availed to provide Internet facilities to the offices, the departments and the students. As stand by there is also USB Modem facility on campus in emergency. The Telephone landline system having encountered problems is presently served by Wireless Loop system and the numbers have thus been changed. 28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students: Computer and Internet is easily accessible to Teachers and students and Training is provided to both by the staff of the computer department. The service is also made available to external candidates who seek skill training.

Financial aid to students: 15 o 117 deserving students have been provided with scholarship to meet their complete college expenses by the college, The financial assistance is given though the Salesians of Don Bosco, Bonn, Germany, Salesians of Don Bosco, Dimapur, Nagaland. o As most of the students belong to the ST group they avail themselves of the government stipends which will partly meet their college expenses. However, those who still cannot afford to meet their college expenses, the college gives them fee concessions. Five students are given concession in the college boys hostel. 30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association o The alumni association collaborated with the students and staff in organizing the Independence Day Programme 15 August. The Independence Day Celebration was thus marked as an Alumni Day and occasion for the local population to experience their identity and express their national sentiments. 32. Health Services The college infirmary caters to the emergency medical needs of staff and students. The local health centre, private clinic and Doctors are availed of in case of need. A Trained nurse is available in the college campus. Besides 5 th Assam Rifles Maram. 33. Performance in Sports Activities: Students Participated at the Inter College sports events conducted by the University. College basketball team members represent the zonal inter-university matches. Football and Basketball matches are organised regularly by the college. Sports activities are regular on the college campus with inter batch tournaments in outdoor and indoor games. 34. Incentive to Outstanding Students: The college gives awards to the best students in various fields: study, attendance, sports, literature, essays and debates, cultural programmes, etc. The Awards for the Year were given away on the occasion of the College day celebrated on Felicitation Day 31 July. Three students participated at the Leadership Training Programme organized by the Xavier Board at NBCLC, Bangalore in 28 December 1 January 2012. Two students from our college were selected for the Pre Republic Day Camp on 16 th to 25 th October 2012. State level NSS MEGA Camp was organized by NSS Cell Manipur University at IMphal on 22 nd 26 th November. The students were given input on Social issues and their role for the society. One student from our college of NSS Units was selected for the Republic Day Parade which was organised by adviser s cell, Ministry of Youth affairs and sports Government of India. Two NSS volunteers from our college were selected for the NSS special programme.

35. Student achievement and awards: 16 The College awarded this year 46 students with cash award as well as with certificate of merit who obtained ranks in the university exams from various departments. The college offers an award to the best final year students of the college both from the boys and girls separately. 36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit: The Jesus Youth students had the annual retreat animated by the Student Service Team from Shillong. The Residential Students underwent the retreat programme during puja vacations. Five staff members trained in Therapy has been assisting the students on personal problems and on making choices in life. The religious staff on the campus do avail their time for timely guidance to needy students. A Women s Cell is in place. RM Education conducts Campus Interview at the college Emirate Printing Press, a foreign company, conducts Campus Interview at the college 37. Placement services provided to the students: o The final year students are given special carrier guidance course for their next face of life. Possible centres of higher education in the post graduation level all over India is made known to them and contacted for their admission by the college. o There is a career guidance unit in the college where the information regarding the availability of jobs in the neighbouring towns, as available from the Newspapers and agencies providing information are collected and stored. These are displayed occasionally, and interested students and those from the locality in search of jobs are guided to the respective addresses. 38. Development programmes for the non-teaching staff: o The annual Picnic for non-teaching staff is organised every year. o A trimonthly interactive session by the Rector of the college with the nonteaching staff ensures their cooperation and is an occasion for them to bring forward their suggestions and grievances if any. o Housing loans are made available to them and the college sponsors the education of their children. o The children of the non-teaching staff are supported in their education through the sponsorship scheme of the college. 39. Healthy practices of the Institution: Value based talks/sessions are given during assembly daily. Regular interactive sessions with students by the Rector and the Counsellor. Course-wise outing along with select staff members were organised at different times of the year Graduation Day on completion of all examinations and prior to the students leaving the college, as to honour the batch and give awards to exceptional performers in academic and co-curricular activities. Part C 18 Details of the Institutional plan for the year 2012-2013 Our experience of offering quality higher education in the only primitive tribe of the state according to the government of India, which is also placed in a rural, hilly, tribal district which is also educationally and economically has been acclaimed widely as serving the most needy section of the society and the state. It is encouraging to see that the number of students seeking admission from all over the state of Manipur as well as from the neighbouring of the North East. This year 46 students of our college topped in the Graduate examinations held by the Manipur University. On the other hand, our concerns for the future are about sustaining quality by seeking ways to ensure its continuity and incremental growth. In order to achieve this goal for the coming year we envisage the following: 1. In order to improve the quality of the students and to engage them fully in the teaching-learning process every department is asked to organize a seminar in every semester. 2. To improve the quality of the teaching staff and to engage them in academic pursuits the lectures are asked to articulate their ideas and opinions through scholarly articles and researches. 3.In order offer a chance to as many students as possible from economically backwards areas, the college decided to improve its infrastructure in the coming year. 4. The credibility of institutions of higher education being gauged from its research output, though being an undergraduate institution, the college shall encourage students to conduct survey of the neighbouring villages of the socio-economic situations. 5. The commitment to the average student and turning him or her into the best one can be has been the mainstay of this small but significant institution of higher learning down its past 70 plus years of history. In keeping with this tradition we shall encourage through the Remedial Coaching Centre the monitoring and capability of enhancement of the weaker students among the SC/ST and minority communities. 6. The IQAC team has been revamped as to include new entrants even as we are moving towards the re-accreditation phase and efforts are to be put in place to achieve the target of implementing the suggestions given by the NAAC report 2009.
