Transcription:

Meet our Administrators Principal Mr. Shawn Patrick Tobin is serving as the Principal of T. L. Hanna High School. He has an Educational Specialist Degree in Leadership and Curriculum. Mr. Tobin is entering his thirtieth year in public education. He has served as a middle school teacher, football and baseball coach, and will be entering his twentieth year as an administrator. His administrative experiences include assistant principal at both the middle and high school levels, Director of Alternative School, High School Principal, and Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Tobin served as the President of the Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity for West Georgia. Additionally, he served on the Georgia State Board for the Georgia Beta Club. Prior to entering public education, Mr. Tobin served our country as an Airborne Paratrooper with 7 th Special Forces Group. Mr. Tobin was activated for deployment and served during Desert Storm. Mr. Tobin is married to the former Mary O Dwyer from Quin, County Clare, Ireland. His daughter, Belinda, is a physical therapist in Anderson, SC. Mr. Tobin looks enjoys being a part of the Yellow Jacket family and being part of a culture that demands high academic and behavioral expectations for all students. He looks forward to his third year as the principal of T. L. Hanna High School.

Director of Ninth Grade Academy Assistant Principal for Instruction Julie McGaha is the Director of the Ninth Grade Academy. Dr. McGaha received a BA and MA in Secondary Education from Clemson University and Eastern Kentucky University respectively. She also holds an EdS from Converse College in Administration and Supervision and a PhD from Clemson University in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. McGaha is entering her 20 th year in public education. During that time she has been a high school teacher, assistant principal, athletic trainer, and college professor. Most recently Dr. McGaha was the Education Director for a Global Education organization through the University of North Carolina system. KarenThrelkeld is a national board certified teacher who has taught high school mathematics in South Carolina for the past 28 years. During that time, I have taught almost every mathematics course offered at the high school level. Currently I am teaching at T. L. Hanna High School and also as an adjunct professor at Anderson University where I teach the mathematics for elementary education course. I was elected president-elect for SCCTM in 2012 and served as President in 2013 and Program Chair in 2014. For the past two years I have been the Vice-President of Secondary for the SCCTM. I have presented at many professional conferences including the annual National Council of

Teachers of Mathematics conference. I graduated in 1987 from Erskine College with a degree in mathematics. In 1997, I received my Master s degree in mathematics education from Clemson University. Presently I am working on my dissertation for a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in mathematics from Clemson University. I have been happily married to my husband Paul for the past 26 years and have two beautiful children. I am running for Vice President of Secondary for the SCCTM because I believe that this organization is an important resource for teachers of mathematics here in South Carolina. As we all struggle with the change to the state standards, the SCCTM has a lot to offer its members. This is a time during which the SCCTM can grow as an organization by providing valuable resources and strategies in the newsletter as well as providing a chance for growth during the annual conference. I would like to have the opportunity to serve on the SCCTM Board as the Vice- President of Secondary during this time.

Assistant Principal Shaunda Tenry is the Assistant Principal for 10 th grade students. She is an Anderson native and graduate of Westside High School. She received her BA in English from Anderson University and MA in Administration from Furman University. Mrs. Tenry has previously served as the Graduation Coach at T.L. Hanna, as the Ninth Grade Academy Director at Westside High School, and as the Assistant Principal/Instructional Facilitator at Southwood Academy of the Arts. She is a former softball, basketball, cross- country, and cheerleading coach. She received the Region 1-AAAA Softball Coach of the Year award in 2006. She is married to Matt Tenry and they have three children and one on the way. Associate Principal Mr. Paul Garrett began his educational career in Spartanburg School District Six twenty one years ago. Over his career Mr. Garrett has worked as a teacher, alternative school director, assistant principal, principal, educational evaluator, and coach. Mr. Garrett is married to the former Ms. Alexandria Johnson and they have three children. Beyond leading schools, Mr. Garrett has served as a local Pastor for 14 years. It is a great honor and privilege to be a part of the T. L Hanna faculty and to serve the families of this community. Go Yellow Jackets!

Athletic Director/Assistant Principal John Cann has been the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal for T.L. Hanna High School since 2014. He is currently the Assistant Principal for 12 th grade students. Coach Cann received his BS Degree from Presbyterian College and his MS Degree in Administration from Converse College. He started his career in education in 1984 by teaching Social Studies and coaching football for Greenwood High School. Coach Cann spent eight years in the construction industry, before returning to education in 1994. He served as Head Football coach for Landrum High School for seven years starting in 2001 and has been an Athletic Director since 2002. In 2012, he was named as the Statewide Athletic Director of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA). He serves on the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA) Board of Directors and is a Past President of the organization. He is married to the former Nancy Davis and they have 2 children, Mark and Caroline. They also have a very special granddaughter, Miss Charlotte Rhea Cann. It is a great privilege to be part of the staff here at T.L. Hanna High School. Nancy and I love being a part of the Anderson community and the Jacket family.
