ACADEMICS o Mock Test 1 which began on the 1 st for Grades 10 & 11 concluded on the 14 th. o On the 2 nd, Mock Test 1 started for Grade 12 and ended by the 10 th. o On the 16 th, Parents -Teachers Meeting (Grades 10 12) for Mock Test 1 was held. CO CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES o MATHEMATICS QUIZ On the 2 nd and 3 rd, Mathematics Quiz was arranged for Students from Grades 3 to 9. Students were given a variety of equations to deduce and solve from. In an ocean of probabilities and calculations, the competition was fierce among the four houses and each position was attained by a hairline victory. As tensions soared after a 2 day battle, the 1 st position was awarded to Ruby House with a calculated average of 18 massive points. The 2 nd position was awarded to Sapphire House with a calculated average of 17 points. The 3 rd Position was awarded to the Emerald House with an average of 16 points and finally, in 4 th Position the Topaz House concluded with 15 points. o 7 TH BIOCHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD On the 19 th, the 7 th Biochemistry Olympiad in which DPS STS School took part and performed astoundingly was held at Curzon Hall, Dhaka University. The Olympiad targeted the students of Grades 10 12 and was designed to encourage interest in the Biosciences. Head of the Science Department of DPS ST School, Ms. Imrana Iqbal was also present at the Olympiad. o INDEPENDENCE DAY On the 30 th, Independence Day was celebrated by the Pre Primary, Primary & Senior Departments followed by cultural programmes. Grades 6 to 12 students had a Special Assembly for the same followed by Flag Hoisting by the Principal, Mr. Harsh Wal & Vice Principal, Mrs. Madhu Wal. Though it was a low-key celebration, its content was rich in value! 2

SPORTS o ISD INTER SCHOOL CRICKET TOURNAMENT-2016 From the 18 th to 20 th, the Boys Cricket Team (Grades 7 to 12) participated in the ISD Inter School Cricket Tournament- 2016 where DPS STS School Team proudly secured the Champion s Crest for the very first time. 4 esteemed schools of the region participated in this prestigious tournament and players hailed from DPS STS School Dhaka, International Turkish Hope School (ITHS), American International School Dhaka (AISD) and International School Dhaka (ISD). With temperatures in the high 20 s and high levels of adrenaline, DPS STS School cricket team clenched to victory while securing the rank of Champions after beating the AISD Team. The players put in a tremendous effort and played flawlessly. Upon receiving the Champion s Crest, students felt inspired and motivated to a great extent. The Man of the Tournament was awarded to Faehim Choudhury (Grade 9- DPS STS School) and the Best Bowler was awarded to Ibrahim Wais (Grade 10 DPS STS School).The DPS STS School Team won all three matches by defeating the other opponents. The final results are as follows: DPS vs. ITHS DPS STS School won by 31 runs DPS vs. AISD - DPS STS School won by 7 wickets DPS vs. ISD DPS STS School won by 8 wickets o DISA HS BOYS BASKETBALL LEAGUE-2016 DPS STS School Basketball Team (Senior) participated in DISA HS Boys Basketball League-2016. The final match of this league will be held in mid-april 16. o MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING CLUB INTER SCHOOL TABLE-TENNIS TOURNAMENT 2016 Mohammedan Sporting Club Inter School Table-Tennis Tournament 2016 was held at Mohammedan Sporting Club, Motijheel, Dhaka. Table Tennis Teams from Grades 1 to 10 participated in the Tournament. Senior Girls team of DPS STS School became the Runner-up and Junior Girls team achieved the 3 rd position in the tournament. Akul Kumar of Grade 4-C was declared the Best Player of the Tournament. 3

Samahat Saniah Rahman (Grade 5-A), Adeeba Rahman (Grade 5-C) and Sanjana Sadika Ahmed (Grade 5-A) from Junior Girls Team were declared 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively in individual events. Khushi Mondal (Grade 9 A) from Senior Girls Team grabbed the 4th position in individual events. Akul Kumar of Grade 4-C was declared the Best Player of the Tournament. All winners of the Tournament were awarded by the Chief Guest Mr Kazi Feroz Rashid (Honourable Member of the Parliament, Dhaka-06) and Ms Zobera Rahaman Linu, the Member Secretary of Kokomo Dhaka Metropolitan School Table Tennis Tournament and ex national table tennis player. o ISD HS BOYS INTER SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT-2016 On the 11 th and 12 th, the Boys Basketball Team participated in the ISD HS Boys Inter-School Basketball Tournament- 2016. 10 Schools of the region participated and DPS STS School Team achieved the 3 rd position. Though victory wasn t attained, the players felt that they learnt a lot from playing against the other teams and were motivated to use more tactics and strategies in their future games. o SCHOLASTICA INTER-SCHOOL CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2016 On the 3 rd and the 5 th, the Boys Cricket Team (Grades 5 to 10) of DPS STS School participated in the Scholastica Inter School Cricket Tournament-2016 where they attained the Runner up Position after being defeated by the defending champions, the Scholastica Team. o INDEPENDENCE CUP SCHOLASTICA INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT-2016. On the 11 th and 12 th, the Boys Football Team (Grades 7 to 9) participated in Independence Cup Scholastica Inter School Football Tournament-2016. The under 14 Team secured the position of the Group Champions and advanced to the semi finals where they sadly were defeated by ITHS 3-1. The Under 16 Team secured 3 rd position in the Tournament. The Best Player Crest was awarded to Mugdho Khaled from Grade 9 of DPS ST School, Dhaka. o AISD/YBOA BASKETBALL TRAINING CAMP-2016 On the 17 th, the Girls (Grades 3-4) Basketball Team participated in AISD/YBOA Basketball Training Camp-2016. Students were taught strategies and tactics of Basketball and also encouraged to practice at home. They were also shown several ball handling techniques along with dribbling, passing and shooting the ball properly. 4

o AISD/YBOA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT -2016 From the 17 th 19 th, the Boys Basketball Team (Grades 7 to 9) participated in AISD/YBOA Basketball Tournament -2016. 12 esteemed schools of the region participated and DPS STS School Team attained 4 th position in the Tournament. o MANARAT INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT-2016 From the 17 th to 19 th, the Boys Football Team (Grades 5 to 12) participated in Manarat Inter School Football Tournament-2016. After playing several matches and defeating the ISD Team, the Under 19 Team of DPS STS School was able to successfully secure the 3 rd position in the Tournament. SEMINARS & WORKSHOPS WITHIN THE SCHOOL o GENERAL TEACHING OF PRIMARY LEVEL Bangla, Mathematics & English teachers of Primary Section attended training workshops on General teaching of Primary Level, Practice Session and Practice Session on teaching new words respectively by the teacher trainer Ms. Samsun Nahar Rupa. SEMINARS & WORKSHOPS ATTENDED BY THE STUDENTS WITHIN THE SCHOOL o ST. MARY S UNIVERSITY, CANADA On the 1 st, DPS STS School Dhaka welcomed Saint Mary s University (SMU) from Canada. Dr. Summerby- Murray, President and Vice Chancellor and Ms. Marie Braswell, Director, Admissions and recruitment of SMU visited the school and gave a presentation to students from Grades 11 and 12. In addition, Mr. Mel Broitman, Managing Director of Canadian University Application Centre (CUAC) and Mr. Shafkat Chowdhury, Country Director, CUAC were also present and interacted with the students and answered their queries regarding higher education in Canada. 5

Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray, President and Vice Chancellor, SMU expressed his delight on being able to visit DPS STS School Dhaka. Expressing gratitude to the audience, he informed that SMU is the leading mid-sized university of Canada and that it is often referred to as Canada's international university, crediting to its student base representing 116 countries. o MACES BD MACES BD hosted 2 informational sessions for Queen Mary University London & University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. Grades 10 to 12 students attended the sessions. o STEM On the 28 th, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) officials (Mr Tarun Bhalla, Founder and Ms Farial Sabrina, Head Southeast Asia) gave a presentation regarding the implementation of Robotics Programme at our School. All Science and Mathematics teachers along with students from Grades 5 to 12 attended the session. SEMINARS & WORKSHOPS ATTENDED BY THE STUDENTS OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL o THE OUTSTANDING CAMBRIDGE LEARNER AWARDS, BANGLADESH On the 6 th, IGCSE Country Toppers were awarded as the Outstanding Cambridge Learners. The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, Bangladesh were presented at The Westin Dhaka where Principal Mr. Harsh Wal & Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal were invited along with few Senior teachers. 9 students (from Grades 11 & 12) from DPS STS School were awarded as Outstanding Cambridge Learners. Professor AKM Saiful Majid, Director of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka, was present at the event as the Chief Guest. Other esteemed guests at the event included Her Excellency Alison Blake; British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and Barbara Wickham, Country Director of British Council Bangladesh; Guy Chapman, Deputy Director, International Network, Cambridge International Education; Ruchira Ghosh, Regional Director South Asia, Cambridge International Examinations and Martin Lowder, Head of Client Relations of British Council. o O & A LEVEL AWARD PRESENTATION CEREMONY On the 5 th, the 17 th O & A Level Award Presentation Ceremony by the Daily Star was held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. 46 Students from DPS STS School Dhaka were awarded based on their outstanding performances in their Cambridge IGCSE and A level examinations. Mahfuz Anam, Editor of the Daily Star and Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal awarded the students. Teachers and academic staff from DPS STS School Dhaka were also present at the ceremony. FIELD TRIPS: o On the 5 th, Students from Grade 7 went for an educational field trip to the Bangabandhu Safari Park. o Students from Grade 4 went for an educational field trip to the NOVO Theater, Dhaka. 8

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS o SHEIKH RUSSEL CHESS TOURNAMENT-2016 On the 29th of February, the Sheikh Russell Chess Tournament was held where Rameen Ahmed of Grade 5-D received a runner up award from the Honourable Health Minister of Bangladesh Mr Mohammad Nasim. o YOUR WORLD SHORT FILM AWARD British Council organized a short film competition titled Your World where 250 students from 21 schools in Bangladesh participated. The DPS STS entry of the short film won the first prize in the 14-16 years category thus becoming the Country Toppers in this category. The film was shot by 4 DPS STS students in different locations under the guidance of Art Teacher, Mr Md. Nasiruddin. o DHAKA ART SUMMIT Grade 5B student Afreen Rahman of DPS STS School performed in the Dhaka ART Summit under the Samdani Art Foundation and received gifts for her participation in this great event. o 9TH NATIONAL MENTAL ARITHMETICS COMPETITION Heartiest Congratulations to Oindrila Pal from Grade 3D for being awarded 1 st Runner up in the 9 th National Mental Arithmetics competition held on the 18 th at Cox s Bazar,Bangladesh. There were more than 8000 Students from all over the country participating in this Event. o HOLIDAYS: o o o The School was closed for (02 working days) Birthday of the Father of the Nation & Independence Day. The School was closed for (05 working days) for Spring Break. The School was closed for (another 02 working days) due to General Strike. o OBITUARY o Deepest condolences to Ms. Raisa Nehreen Ahmed (Pre Primary Teacher) for the sad demise of her father. 9
