Newsletter No. 35 - November 2013 Deepavali Celebration Tenby Schools Ipoh celebrated the Festival of Lights this year in the last week of October with a variety of Deepavali themed activities and events for staff and students. One of the highlights of the week-long programme was the Deepavali assembly held at the Multipurpose Hall. It was the biggest assembly thus far at the new campus with the gathering of more than 900 students and staff from the Malaysian and International schools. The assembly started off with the lighting of lamps by Mr Gilman, Mr Harvey and Mrs Puvanes. It was followed with performances by students from Sekolah Tenby and Tenby International School (Primary and Secondary). The staff and students from Tenby Sixth Form also did a short and hilarious sketch entitled The Raja Sutra guest starring Tenby s very own Mr MGR! The assembly ended at around 9.30am with a fashion parade by the students and staff all adorned in their traditional and colourful Indian attires. (More picture on the next page!)

Pink was for October The Stache is for Movember! The Movember campaign is an independent global charity where men and women join together to raise November to raise awareness for a charitable cause. Week 1 This year, the (male) staff from Tenby International School have agreed to take up the challenge to grow different styles of mustaches for the month of November. Money raised from this campaign at Tenby will be donated to a local charity cause, the Soroptimist International (SI) Ipoh s Edufun Centre. It is a centre in Ipoh which provides shelter and assistance for underprivileged children from problematic environments and broken homes. Starting from Monday, 18 November 2013 a collection box will be passed round at the school assembly for this cause. Parents and guardians who wish to contribute to this cause are requested to write their cheques to Ipoh International School Sdn Bhd or place your cash donations in a box in the main office. We will be featuring our Mo Bros moustache growing progress in our newsletters and here are the pictures for the first and second week. WEEK 2 L-R: Mr Peh Eng Chuang, Mr Ricky Singh, Mr Andrew Lowery & Mr Fergus Tighe

A survey is a crucial part of school development and improvement. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate what we are doing well, while at the same time provides useful data to inform future plans, which will enable Tenby Schools to provide a more effective teaching and learning environment for all of our students in the years to come. Please take a few minutes to complete the Parents Survey for 2013. We thank you for taking the time to help us move forward. CCA Students have all been assigned their CCA and for fee paying CCA, students need to have these fees settled for the year. Students with outstanding CCA fees will be excluded from their CCA if fees are not paid by 18 November 2013. Student Leaders (L-R): Choo Wei Yang, Chew Tzu Hong, Jordan Loke, Caelan Parlanti, Chantelle Wyllie, Emily Ho, Alycia Wong & Warunya Lawpattanagoon Leadership course On 25 October 2013, eight student leaders from Tenby Schools Ipoh attended the Leadership Training Workshop conducted by Eric Liddell and Aiden Harper of TFL Education. Emily Ho, Caelan Parlanti, Alycia Wong, Warunya Lawpattanagoon, Chantelle Wyllie, Choo Wei Yang, Jordan Loke and Chew Tzu Hong were accompanied by Ms Nikki Sullivan for the one-day workshop held at Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park. This was the first time where students from all branches of Tenby (Tenby Schools Ipoh, Tenby Schools Penang, Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park, Tenby International School Miri and Tenby International School Setia Eco Garden) were able to meet together in this sort of an event. It is always a good experience to meet students from other schools, as it encourages unity of all the Tenby braches and also grants us the opportunity to gain insight on the difference between life in Tenby Ipoh and life in other Tenby schools, Emily Ho, Year 10 Blue. The workshop was divided into four sessions, Leadership Pathway, Team Leading, Communication and We are all Leaders and for every session, students were asked to reflect on the topic and what they have learnt from the activities conducted. The activities set up by the speakers were very meaningful as at the end of every activity, there will always be a lesson to us all. The activities allowed us to imagine and experience what might happen in real life if no one steps up and takes the lead; what might happen if we have no proper communication among the group and what might happen, if we do not co-operate with one another Chew Tzu Hong, KBSM 4. Everyone found the workshop truly inspiring and they have even requested for the school to organize similar inter-school events in the near future. The 6-hour workshop ended at around 3.30pm before the student leaders depart for Ipoh with the school van. We went home feeling weary but definitely wiser as we have learned so much from the course. It was an excellent experience and we all enjoyed it. I strongly recommend Tenby to set this up again in the years to come Jordan Loke, Year 10 Green. IPC Handouts Please be informed that the IPC handouts for early years at Tenby International School and IISEYC have been uploaded on our website (www.tenby.edu.my/ipoh/ downloads) and the hardcopy of the handouts were also handed to parents/guardians from Early Years. The session is open to students who were chosen during the audition held on Monday, 11 November 2013. The regular Dance CCA session on Tuesdays will be conducted as usual.
