Local 2093 were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in March of 1989 and opened for research in October of 1991. Local 2093 represents workers at the General Motors Hydra-Matic Plant in Three Rivers, Michigan. This Hydra-Matic Local was chiefly responsible for the production of General Motors vehicle transmissions. The collection illustrates the changing of the old guard to the new. With a declining domestic industry, the automotive business is faced with several challenges - competition from foreign automakers, increased concern over worker safety, employee benefits and layoffs among the seniority rank and file.
