HOMEROOM Recess is not part of the middle school schedule. Students are assigned to homeroom with other students in 6th grade. Homeroom lasts for 28 minutes and is scheduled opposite the students lunch period. Homeroom is used for: homework completion band lessons homework assistance retakes and make-ups silent reading study time character education presentations
KT-33 Scheduled every Thursday 3 or 4 minutes taken from each class period to create an 8th period in the day 33 minute intervention or homework/study/reading session Small groups and one to one sessions with teachers -- band rehearsals, too
TEACHER ASSIGNMENTS Students are assigned to classes at random -- except for Honors Math, Seminar Language Arts and Seminar Communications, and Team-taught classes. Honors/Seminar placement decisions are finalized in early June. Parents are notified via mail. Specific teacher requests are not taken. Concerns about schedule should be directed to Ms. Kessler.
MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS NEED... a positive mentor relationship with an adult other than a parent to be heard to socialize time in their day for physical activity

IMPORTANT DATES Thursday, August 17: Summer Orientation for grades 6, 7, and 8 8:00 am to noon; 1:00 to 3:30 pm; 5:00 to 7:00 pm --pick up schedules, locker assignments, new lunch PIN numbers (6th grade), take yearbook photos, buy planners and PE shirts, order yearbooks Tuesday, August 22 OR Wednesday, August 23: JumpStart for grade 6 9:00 am to noon Students meet KTMS staff and learn about their classes and the building. Tuesday, August 29: 6th Grade Back to School Night for parents (students, too!) Tuesday, September 6th: First Day of School Tuesday, October 3rd: Parent Visit Day Parents of 6th graders tour the building during the school day and learn more about KTMS s educational programming.
