Parents Teachers Meetings were held for Screening Test-1 for Grades 10 to 12 on the 20th. ++ +++++++++ Pitha Utshob was organized by Primary Department (Grades 1 to 4) on the 3rd. The Festival was inaugurated by Honorable Vice Principal as she cut the ribbon and put the festival in play. Children brought delectable Pithas from their homes as they sold the items to other students and teachers. It was a delightful and exciting experience for the children as well as the teachers and it was a very successful event. On the 21st, Pre Primary celebrated the Victory Day and Winter Festival. It was a fun filled day with delicious treats, displays of Winter fruits, vegetables, clothing, exciting craft activities and a cultural programme. Students from Primary and also Secondary visited the fete as it was open to all.

The Festival was inaugurated by the Vice Principal and the Programme began with a Special Assembly at the basketball ground to mark the 44th Victory Day of Bangladesh. Students of Pre-KG presented a patriotic song followed by a colourful physical training display by the KG students depicting different facets of country s glorious freedom struggle. To top it all was an array of mouthwatering pithas beckoning the crowd. Culinary delights included Bhapa, Puli, Chitoi and Naksha pitha. The day ended with colourful craft activities by all four sections of the Pre-KG & KG. The Event brought together the students and teachers of Pre Primary to participate in various activities and lots of Winter fun. CEO of STS Group Mr. Parvez also visited the Winter Fest. The Prize Giving Ceremony was held on the 22nd. The prestigious ceremony was graced by the honorable presence of the Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Secondary, Deputy Head of Secondary and Dean of Academics. To start off, Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal delivered an enlightening speech where she welcomed the guests, congratulated the awardees and encouraged other students to apply themselves more in the future. She emphasized and instilled the values and virtues of proper learning while also providing detailed guidance on methods to succeed. Prizes were awarded under several categories with each individual category receiving awards and certificates from distinguished guests on stage. The first category of awards was given to the SUPW Students for their outstanding efforts in Social activities which include Cleaning and Dusting, House Board Project, Gardening, BRAC School Program and Flyer Preparation. This was handed over by Dean of Academics Mr. Manoj Kumar. The next prestigious category was Subject Toppers in Academics for Grades 5 and 6. Deputy Head of Secondary Ms. Tarana Majid handed over the certificates and prizes to individuals attaining highest marks in specific subjects. The same category of Subject Toppers in Academics for Grades 7 to 9 was followed next with the Head of Secondary, Ms. Ishrat Imam handing over the certificates and awards.

After the Subject Toppers awards had been given, Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal was invited to kindly hand over the very distinguished IGCSE, AS and A Level Subject Toppers Awards for the 14-15 Session along with DPS STS Scholarships. Awardees were delighted upon receiving such an honor and were elated to share a photograph with the Vice Principal as they received their esteemed awards. Vice Principal also handed over the prizes for the Special Prize Category where individual students were awarded for specific accomplishments. These awards ranged from Film making, Video designing to Full Attendance in the 14-15 session. Two teachers were given awards for Full Attendance (Ms. Jesmin Sultana and Mr. Asish Kumar Saha). The next category of prizes was the individual trophies and Inter House Trophies and Principal Mr. Harsh Wal did the honour of handing them over. Trophies were awarded to Brain of the Year (Middle and Senior), Best Maintained Classroom, Sports, Cultural, Discipline and Academics. Ms. Shanjida Shahnaz was awarded the trophy for the Best Maintained Classroom (Grade 8C) in the 14-15 session. The Table Tennis Trophy and Basketball Trophy were awarded to the Emerald House for a total of 171 Inter House Sports points. The Inter House Quiz Trophy was based on the sum total of all quizzes and this was jointly awarded to the Emerald and Topaz Houses. The Inter House Debate Trophy was based on sum of all elocution competitions and the award went to Sapphire House. The Cultural trophy was awarded to the Emerald House for a total of 79 inter house co curricular points. The Discipline Trophy was awarded to Ruby House for the best disciplined House having the least deducted points for the Disciplinary cards and the Academic Trophy which was the combined points of First, Mid and Final Term was awarded to the Emerald house for a total of 3398 Academic points. Finally the most awaited Cock House trophy was awarded by Vice Principal and Principal. The Cock House Trophy is based on 4 categories of Academics, Cultural, Sports and Discipline and the winners of the Cock House Trophy was the Emerald House at a grand total of 34 points. In 2nd place, Ruby House totaled at 19 points, Topaz House at 18 and Sapphire House with merely 1 point was placed 4th. It was an enjoyable programme and students were immensely delighted. Parents of the awardees were filled with excitement and pride as they saw their wards being given such honour for their efforts in School.

It was held initially at the Basketball ground for the Flag Hoisting ceremony where Honorable Principal and Vice Principal hoisted the Bangladesh Flag and the DPS STS School Flag as the students stood in attention reverently showing their respect.

Afterwards, students were escorted to the School s Auditorium where they enjoyed a cultural programme designed especially to celebrate the occasion of Victory Day. To provide practical knowledge and exposure to real life situations, the Socially Useful Productive Work team went with the students of grade 5-7 as an educational trip to Beautiful Mind which is a Special Centre for Autistic and Mentally Challenged Children. It focuses on children with autism, down-syndrome and others who are mentally challenged. DPS STS School students interacted with the children there and saw what they did in their daily lives. Students enjoyed themselves immensely and joined a marvellous performance by the children from Beautiful Mind to conclude the day.

A special assembly was held for Christmas Day Celebration on the 23rd for students of Grades 1 to 5. Students sang songs and performed exquisite dances in the spirit of Christmas celebrations. Senior students attended the celebration and enjoyed the programme immensely. Sunbeams Model United Nations Conference was held at Sunbeams School Dhaka on the 27th, 28th and the 29th. A total of 23 Students from Grades 11 and 12 attended the Conference accompanied by 3 teachers. Students were designated as delegates and they all left feeling confident about their oratorical and leadership qualities. ++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ On the 3rd and the 9th, 2 matches for DISA HS Girls Basketball League 2015-16 were held at American International School Dhaka. There are more matches are scheduled in January as per completion of the tournament.

Victory Day Basketball Tournament 2015 (Boys from Grades 7 to 12) was held at Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka where DPS STS School Team won the runner up trophy. DPS STS School cricket team comprising 16 students ranging from Grades 5 to 11 participated in the ISD Friendly Cricket Match-2015 and won the runner up trophy. School Girls Basketball Tournament 2015 was held at the Bangladesh Basketball Federation in Dhanmondi, Dhaka and the DPS STS School Team won the runner up trophy. Grades 9 to 12 participated in ISD Football League 2015 where they played simultaneous matches with several other reputable schools in the region. Though the matches were power packed and intense, DPS STS School won the runner up trophy after giving an excellent effort.

Sreecharan 4 D 3rd Final Audition for 3rd Dhaka Art Summit 2015 was held at Gulshan at Ms. Emily Dolan s (Director Operations and External Affairs of Dhaka Art Summit 2016) humble residence. Afreen Rahman, a student from Grade 5 was chosen as one of the 5 final Ann Lee s for Tino Sehgal s solo project at the Dhaka Art Summit. A total of over 130 students from different schools had competed for Ann Lee s character and 44 students participated from DPS STS School Dhaka for the First Audition. Other participants included students from schools like AISD, ISD, Grace International School and Sunbeams. The process of selection of the suitable candidates to bring the character of Ann Lee to life consisted of three consecutive auditions. The first two auditions, for DPS STS School students, took place on 21st of November and 4th December respectively narrowing down to 02 candidates. The two students were invited to the Final Call Back Audition that was held on the 19th. The student who has been selected from the Final Call Back Audition is Afreen Rahman from Grade 5B of DPS STS School Dhaka. On the 13 th, New Nation Newspaper published Vice Principal Mrs. Madhu Wal s article on Why I chose to be a teacher. Teachers and students were inspired and motivated. Vice Principal highlighted some of her past experiences with students and also commented on her passion to teach.

++ +++++++++++++++++++ Bangla, Mathematics, Science and Art Department teachers of Primary Section attended a workshop on GENERAL TEACHING. Primary Department teachers attended a workshop on GENERAL TEACHING OF PRIMARY LEVEL. Grade 12 students attended a presentation by Ms. Suhaylah Ali, GradCoach from GradConnect on HIGHER EDUCATION: CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES AND REALITIES. Mr. Mark Whitworth (ISD Teacher of Humanities and Trainer) conducted two sessions with Social Science Faculty of the School for in service training. A Video Documentary presented by GTV: SCHOOL-E OBOSORE was held at the School premises on the 15th. A team from GTV visited the School for the making of the documentary where they showcased the extra-curricular activities in DPS STS School. The presenter interviewed the Principal and Vice Principal and highlighted the various musical, dance and acting/drama performances, recitations, class room activities, outdoor and Sports activities held in the School. Ms. Asheka E Pir Hashmi (Pre Primary Teacher and Coordinator) attended a conference on Partnership and Alliance Building to Implement the Comprehensive ECCD Policy held at the capital at Spectra Convention Centre. Bangladesh ECD Network (BEN) organized this National ECD Conference 2015 on the 6th. The objectives were to emphasize the implementation of this policy and to draw attention of GO-NGO stakeholders to professional development and innovative program on ECD. About 150 participants comprising BEN member organizations, Government agencies and secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, State Minister of MOWCA (Ministry of Women and Children Affairs), experts, representatives of civil society organizations, Country Head of UNICEF and UNESCO attended this event. Duke of Edinburgh Awards-DEA Night 2015 was held at Heritage Restaurant in Gulshan on the 5th. High Officials from Duke of Edinburgh organization and 15 teachers including Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Mridha (IT Manager and Board Exam Coordinator) attended the occasion.

YOUR WORLD VIDEO DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION-PHASE II was held at British Council Dhaka on the 10th. Selected students of DPS STS School Dhaka participated in this Global Talent Programme where they learned about various topics and situations involving Film Making. Students enjoyed the programme thoroughly and came back feeling motivated, inspired and determined.
