Due to staffing constraints and other restrictions at Melton Waves, they are unable to accommodate our swimming program in a structure that would continue to allow us to keep costs down for families. As such, we will not be running swimming at this stage. However, we are exploring other options for our swimming program. Due to the late notice it will be a minor miracle to find anywhere that can take us this term. We will also be exploring how we might run this program earlier next year, or even run a junior and senior program separately next year. We are very disappointed with this situation, but it is out of our control. Morning Arrivals and Times Over the past few weeks we have noticed that we have a number of children in the school grounds well before 8:30AM in the morning. Our yard is supervised from 8:45AM in the morning and I ask that children be dropped off around this time. It puts our students at a huge safety risk to be in the school grounds unsupervised from such an early time. We are lucky enough to be able to offer Out of School Hours Care, which is an option for our working families. We also want to make you aware that classrooms will also be open from around 8:40AM and no earlier. Most mornings our teachers are engaged in meetings and curriculum planning sessions vital elements to their practice. However, they will still be available to catch-up with parents from 8:40AM. If you require a more substantial conversation with any member of staff, I ask that you book a meeting time with them on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday after school. Report Writing Day and Melbourne Cup Day As this is the last newsletter before Week 5 of term, please note that Monday 5 th November is an assessment and report writing day for teachers. As such, there will be no school on this day. This is then followed by Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 6 th November. 2019 Planning Lastly, we are in full motion with planning for 2019. I would like to extend an invitation to parents to put in writing if you have any requests or considerations for your child/children for class placement in 2019. Please note these will be considered by teachers and the leadership team, but not guaranteed. For your letter to be considered, please ensure I have it in writing or an email by Monday November 5 th. My email: garner.david.s@edumail.vic.gov.au I hope you all have a wonderful week. Cheers David Garner Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. ~ John Dewey
