LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER One of the best places to be this time of year is the PHS Library. When it s cold outside, students love to find a spot in a sunny space to work and read. Research, reading, access to computers, Distinguished Reader program, Library Club, chess there s plenty going on in our beautiful library. One choice for students at PHS who love to read is an elective course called Reading for Credit. Finding time in a busy high school student s schedule to read a book other than what is required in core classes can be tough. Reading for Credit makes room. The class meets in the library each hour of the school day. The course is taught by Library Media Specialist, Robie Martin, and runs concurrently with regular library traffic. Independent in format, students will choose and read 6 books throughout the semester and create an evaluation project for each. Using technology is integral in creating the evaluation projects. Booktrailers, QR code shelf talkers and podcasts are among the choices students might choose to create. Other course components are regular booktalks and frequent vocabulary-building activities. Most students would probably say that their favorite part of class, however, is time to sit in our beautiful PHS Library in a comfortable chair and just READ. If you would like a link to our PHS Library webpage, follow this QR code link:

2018-19 SPRING SEMESTER FINALS EXEMPTION All students are expected to take finals in order to reinforce knowledge gained during the semester. The rigor of instruction and daily requirements to achieve high scores prepares a student for post-high school endeavors as well. PHS staff intends to reward students for excellent attendance and academic achievement throughout the semester who have already demonstrated ascertainment of the curricular material, while blending the need for students to prepare for and take a final assessment. A maximum of 3 exemptions will be allowed to 9-12 grade students. Students meeting the requirement in 4 or more classes must choose which 3 classes from which to be exempted. It is the student s responsibility to complete the application process in order to be exempted from any semester final. Class criteria will be: an A in the class; no unexcused absences in that hour; 3 or fewer excused absences in that hour; no ISS/OSS in any hour. Finals are May 13, 14, and 15 for grades 9-11.
