Mundubbera State P -10 Newsletter Sponsored by the Mundubbera P & C...a respectful, disciplined and healthy community of thinkers striving for personal best. Bunce Street MUNDUBBERA QLD 4626 T; 07 4165 5333 F: 07 4165 5300 E: the.principal@mundubbess.eq.edu.au Mundubbera State P-10 26 June 2014 Principal: Peter Townsend Head of Department: John Balshaw Business Services Manager: Lyn Serisier GOOD LUCK SHAWNA Congratulations and best wishes to Shawna Pope who will be representing Australia in the Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Carnival on the Gold Coast from 5th to 12th July. Her 14 year girls team will be playing against New Zealand. Well done to Shawna for the dedication and talent required to reach this elite level. Good luck. BOOK WEEK PARADE TOMORROW Don t forget the dress up parade tomorrow at about 8.45am. Students are welcome to dress up in theme for the parade and bring other suitable clothing for later if necessary. Parents and friends are very welcome to attend what is expected to be a very colourful and interesting parade. There will be no other school parades tomorrow. WELCOME TO JESS RYAN Congratulations and best wishes to Katie O Kelly who has been selected for the role of Acting Principal at Monogorilby State School for the remainder of the year. We welcome Jess Ryan as secondary class teacher at Mundubbera for the next Semester. Jess undertook pre-service training here last year, working with Alicia Dabelstein s class and we look forward to her returning to our teaching team. THANKS SARAH Tomorrow will be Sarah Summers last day as our Year 3/4 class teacher. We thank Sarah for the great work she has done this semester and wish her all the best in her future roles. Sandy Shannon will return as Year 3/4 class teacher next semester as her work with Project 600 Literacy support has now been completed.

NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS AT SCHOOL As NAIDOC week is during the school holidays, it will be recognised at our school on Friday morning 18 July, commencing at 10.30. There will be a small ceremony recognising National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Commemoration and the newly created Yarning Circle will be officially opened with some story activities to follow, using this new playground feature. AWARDS Congratulations to students of the week and Dragon Reader who received their awards last Friday. Years 6 and 7 students also received certificates relating to their Bundaberg excursion. SANDWICHES PLEASE Please ensure that your child has sufficient food for morning tea and lunch at school. Students are much hungrier in the cooler weather and definitely need more than a couple of snack items to get them through the day. The office has recently experienced a rush of students requesting emergency lunch sandwiches. Please check with your children regarding the adequacy of their lunch provision. In some cases students themselves are responsible for preparations. If this is the case, please monitor them as the school cannot supply lunches.

THE GOLD SHOW The Gold Show will be visiting our school on Tuesday 19 August. This is not an Arts Council performance but is a separate educational session from 9.30 to 2.30 and involves our students in the performance. It is designed to increase student knowledge of gold mining in Australia, while encouraging their creative and imaginative talents. This visit is being subsidised by a special grant, keeping the cost to $6 per primary student and $8 for those in years 7 to 10. Payment must be received by 1st August to enable planning and logistics. Your support of this great educational opportunity by forwarding early payment would be greatly appreciated. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC NEWS Gig Guide: 2 nd August Pet Show We regret that the Creative Generation excursion has been cancelled due to tickets being sold out. SUPPORTIVE READING Secondary students have undertaken short reading sessions with those in year 1. This is a great example of students working together. The activity builds positive relationships while focusing on a very important aspect of curriculum and student progress. Our auditor of Junior Secondary was impressed with how well our students are interacting and how we are focusing on reading improvement across the school. CLASSROOM CONSUMABLES Please check your child s stock of pencils, glue etc as it is possible that these need replenishing ready for next term.

PRIMARY INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 15th JULY The carnival will be held in two places, with those aged 5-8 years in multi-games courts area and students aged 9 to 12 years competing on the school ovals. Sprints for all age groups will be held on the oval commencing at approximately 11am. Students are encouraged to wear either their house colours or school uniform on athletics day. Any parents who can offer assistance at high jump, discus or shotput throughout the day are very welcome. Please contact Lisa Whelan to arrange a roster. This support is greatly appreciated, enabling the smooth operation of our sports carnival. SECONDARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL The Secondary athletics carnival will be held on Friday 1 August.
