UN declared to observe 30 September every years as International Translation Day in May 2017. Why? 30 September celebrates the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators. He was a priest from North-eastern Italy and translated the New Testament from Greek to Latin. Since 2005, UN conducts St. Jerome Translation Contest, a contest which rewards the best translations in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish as well as German. It aims to celebrate multilingualism and highlight the important role of translators and other language professionals in multilateral diplomacy. Do you Know? The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been translated into more than 500 languages.

Why in News? The Odisha Government recently said that Royal Bengal Tigers (RBTs) have been spotted in three new locations in the State. News Locations: Hemagiri forest in Sundargarh, Debrigad Wildlife Century in Hirakud and Munigada in Rayagada district. Centre and NTCA says Odisha has 28 RBTs, whereas State says it has 40 RBTs in 2016. NTCA only surveyed Shimilipal and Satkosia Tiger Reserves during 2016.

Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics (CEDA) in New Delhi. It would strengthen citizen service delivery through datadriven governance. The minister also launched DigiVaarta,a mobile based app. Digi VAARTA stands for Vehicle to Accelerate Access and Reach to Transformational Action. It is a platform designed to enable Financial and Social Inclusion by educating citizens on various schemes and programmes.
