Introduction : Annual Report 2017-18 ISWAR SARAN DEGREE COLLEGE University of Allahabad, Allahabad Iswar Saran Degree College, a constituent post graduate college of the University of Allahabad was established in the year 1970 under the aegis of Iswar Saran Ashram with two vibrant units; Gandhi Study Circle and Gandhi Memorial Library as integral part of it. In college, graduate and postgraduate classes of basic three streams of Science, Arts and Commerce are running; keeping in mind the future needs of the students and the global challenges the college also runs several vocational courses approved by UGC under different faculties viz. Food Processing and Automobile in B. Voc. Degree program, Computer Application, Computer and Electronic Equipment Maintenance and six add-on courses like mobile repairing, e-commerce, watershed management, microbial bio-fertilizer : production and utilization, computer application O level diploma, and library science. 2. Thrust Areas : In line with the changing national and global scenario, all teachers are constantly working to create the best environment with updated knowledge to develop appropriate acumen and skills. The college is continuously upgrading not only its infrastructure but also the academic courses like, new subjects in Undergraduate and Post-Graduate classes and also aspire to run D.Phil. Courses in several subjects. With this main objective, the college is constantly working as a workshop for social engineering to provide youth with knowledge, skills, values, traditions and patriotism. To gratify the desires of excellence in higher education the College aims; Ø To develop a cohesive center of excellence in teaching and learning to produce best manpower enriched with highly innovative perception and adaptability potential. Ø To prepare the youths to face the interminably changing global challenges. Ø To provide best higher education to youth in general, and with special emphasis on Schedule casts/ Schedule tribes, socially, economically and educationally deprived and disadvantaged groups. Ø To impart knowledge, skills, moral values, traditions and patriotism among students to create a good human-being. Ø To let the youth to cooperate each other and embrace the sorrow of the impoverished and help them as far as possible. Faculty members: Recruitment and Appointment: For more than 15 years, there was no permanent appointment of teachers in the college. But in the year 2017-18, the appointment of 35 new Assistant Professors have been made possible in the college due to the compassion of the Vice-Chancellor. These appointments are going to play an important role in achieving new achievements in higher education sector. The number of students has increased every year in the college but due to the absence of teachers, the negative impact has been observed on the educational environment. In order to ensure the quality of teaching and education in the college, a new kind of campaign has been instigated by the new and old faculty, under which according to the requirement and 3

Outdoor/Other Co-curricular Activities: To provide best in hand training various departments of college conducts outdoor activities so that students can get alive hand in hand training experience by doing the things. The previous year ancient history department has organised academic tour two historical important exploration excavation sites nearby Allahabad city. Which is appreciated by the higher authorities and also covered by various media houses. 9

Iswar Saran Degree College has a special and unique status by having enriched museum. Various reputed and highly designated visitors and dignitaries used to visit the museum. The college museum has celebrated international Museum day and world heritage day in an active manner. In which highly reputed academician and historian delivered lectures on various issues related to history and collection of antique things in to museum. College has organised a Combined Open Aptitude Test in which 400 approx. students have registered and participated. Certificates and awards were distributed by the college Principal and other dignitaries. 19. Library Extension Activities: Appointment of librarian after a gap of 17 years, a new librarian Dr. Satybrat Shukla has been appointed in the college in the month of October 2017. Acquisition of Books : During the time period under report total 4852 volumes of books were added to the collection through purchase. Apart from it 1102 reference books are also added to library collection. Subscription of Journals: The library subscribed 293 journals on behalf of various departments.
