Undoubtedly, it will be another busy term as our students complete another dynamic program of work across the school. This term will see our students practising for and competing in the Faction Athletics Carnival towards the end of term and also experiencing Book Week again. With Open Night being held in Week 6, classes will again be preparing their rooms for that evening. In addition, we will continue to have a number of excursions across the school, making for an engaging and full ten weeks. Congratulations to all those students who won awards at the final assembly for the term held on Friday 30 th July. The awards reflect the hard work, commitment and abilities demonstrated by the winners, who earned those awards. Thank you to the large number of parents who attended and to the student leaders for their impressive leadership during the event. In addition, our wonderful school choir performed admirably, enthusiastically displaying their talent. Thank you to Mr. Davey for all his hard work. We held the second of our Edu Dance concerts on Thursday 28 th June at 2.00pm, with the students presenting the dances they had been working on all term. In front of a very large and enthusiastic crowd of parents, families, friends and staff members, the students performed brilliantly, smiling and dancing their way through the songs. It was a great way to end the term and showcase the talents of our students. Thank you to all those parents and friends who were able to attend. Thanks also to Shailee and Demi for their terrific work throughout the term. The annual Interschool Winter Carnival was held on Tuesday 26 th June with our campus being represented in football, soccer, hockey and netball. Our representatives all tried their best with great performances in the football competition, where our team was runners-up. Well done to everyone who represented the campus and thank you to those parents able to come along and offer support. Success and enjoyment in these carnivals is due in no small way to the efforts of those teachers involved. Ably led and coordinated by Mr Brooks, our teachers coached, trained and supervised the teams leading up to and on the day. Thanks to Mr Smeed, Mrs London, Mrs West, Mrs Newman, and of course Mr Brooks for all their efforts on what was a busy end to the term. We begin our term with the Faction Cross Country run this week. Due to inclement weather we have changed the date of the run from Wednesday (tomorrow) to Thursday, our reserve day. The Cross Country run will now be on Thursday (19 th July) when better conditions are expected. We apologise for the late change but the weather has meant that we have had to move the day. I do appreciate that some parents have made plans based on the original date and I apologise for any inconvenience caused., I look forward to seeing lots of parents there to support their children and I wish the students all the best for the day. Please also note that our school photos are being taken next week on Thursday 26 th and Friday 27 th July. Packs for students have been sent home. If you have any queries regarding the times and any other related matters, please contact the school. The cross country carnival has been postponed from Wednesday 18th July to Thursday 19th July due to the inclement weather predicted for tomorrow. Winter Carnival On the last Tuesday of Term 2, Riverton PS participated in our yearly Winter Carnival. This event includes the sports of AFL, Netball, Soccer and Hockey. Our students participated in the carnival with positive attitudes and great sportsmanship. We had mixed results with our teams achieving a variety of wins, draws and losses. Thank you very much to our teachers who helped to select the teams, giving up their lunchtimes and coached the students during the carnival. Thank you to Mrs West, Mrs Newman/Mrs Hooper, Mrs London and Mr Smeed). Without your help, the students would not have been able to participate in the event. Girls AFL Carnival On the last Thursday of Term 2, Riverton PS participated in the Freo Dockers Cup (a girls AFL competition). We had two teams competing in the competition and had the youngest players in the event. Our girls were brave and courageous playing against bigger opponents, and they gave it their best efforts in every match. Thank you to Mrs London for helping me with the coaching. The girls had a great time and they all received a certificate and poster for their participation in the carnival.
