Pupil Bulletin 2018 All young people S1 - S3 S4 - S6 Friday 7 September S2 Boys Football Team All players interested in being part of the S2 football team should meet with Mr Hamilton (Des Tech) at break on Friday 7th September in room 141. Badminton Club Badminton club will start back this Monday from 3.40-4.30 in the Games Hall. Open to everyone, even if you didn t get the chance to sign up at the Fair yesterday Football - Tennis Yes it s back! One of the best attended clubs of last year makes an exciting return in the Games Hall on a Monday at lunch. Make sure you have your lunch before heading to the hall. Senior Pupil Leadership team A reminder that you should head to room 133 after assembly. Fire Up Scotland All forms need to be returned by Monday. S6 Languages Ambassadors This is a great opportunity for S6 pupils who are studying a foreign language, want to keep up their Higher language from last year or are interested in studying Primary or Secondary teaching at University. You ll assist the teacher 1 period a week in S1-S3 classes by helping learners with pronunciation, point keeping in games, working with small groups etc. Training will be provided and you ll never be left alone in a class! It s an opportunity to give back to the school by supporting younger learners while developing communication and leadership skills, gaining a SALTIRE award and experience which will look great on your UCAS application. If this is of interest to you, please come and collect an application form from Miss Lochhead in Room 125.

MATHS WEEK Starting on Monday 10th September is Maths Week across the country. It is a chance for S1-S3 to step outside of the classroom curriculum and enjoy the challenge of solving problems and puzzles. Look forward to: - a daily puzzle competition in the bulletin with prizes - entering Maths wi nae borders competition - relay competitions - Manga High competition - Logic puzzle challenges - Maths inside photo competition and more... Thursday 6 September Foundation Apprenticeships Spaces are still available for the following Foundation Apprenticeships. Scottish Maths Challenge Competition If you like solving problems and challenging yourself then the Scottish Maths Challenge is for you. Set 1 of problems is out now. Entries are due on Mon 24th Sept. to Rm 109, Miss K. Withey. This is to be done at home in your own time. Write all of your solutions on an A4 piece of paper. Problems come in 3 stages: Junior - S1 and S2 Middle - S3 & S4 Senior - S5 & S6 To access the questions you can either follow the link: http://www.wpr3.co.uk/mc/ or you can join the google classroom bo6i7o. If you have any questions see your Maths Teacher. Art & Design Folio All pupils who wish to pay for the return of their Art & Design folios must add their name to the lists in the Art FLA. The return of both folios will cost around 5, no money will be collected until the folios are returned to school. Do not bring money for the return of your folios at this stage, as this will only be collected when handing

the folio back to you. Please note that the date for pupils collection of their returned folios is likely to be December. Open University YASS Students It is essential that the following students return their application form to Dr McDonald as soon as possible. If the form is late there is no guarantee that you will be accepted on your course: Joe Clayson; Ryan Dempsey; Spencer Archibald; and Amy Machray. S6 - study periods S6 pupils should use the permanent seating in the hub during study periods from today onwards. The sign in sheet will continue to be located in the LRC. FLAs can be used with the permission of the faculty PT. The LRC can be used if IT access is required. Fire Up Scotland We have 60 tickets to attend an inspiring event alongside 12,000 other school pupils at the SECC on Wednesday 12 September. Open to S4-S6 pupils. First come first serve, although priority will be given to Prefects and members of the Learner Participation groups. Register your interest here. FAs - Mondays and Tuesdays I reminder to our Foundation Apprenticeship pupils that you do not attend P5 class - please be at the office for 12.55. S5 Prefect nominations Nominations are now open for new S5s to apply to be a Prefect for this year. Any S5 who meets the criteria below should complete this form by Wednesday 29 August. In order to become a Prefect you will need to have: attendance which is 95% or better in 2017/2018 (anyone with exceptional circumstances should speak to Mr Hamilton once an application has been submitted) 3 or fewer lates per term shown commitment to at least one school activity and have it verified by a member of staff a very positive school record as you are to be a role model for younger pupils in the school

UCAS Higher Education convention All S6 are invited to attend the UCAS Higher Education convention on Wednesday 19 September. You must register for your free ticket. See your school Gmail or S6 Google Classroom for details. Film academy - opportunity for seniors Screen Education Edinburgh have started recruiting for this year s BFI Film Academy Edinburgh and South East Scotland programme, which runs on weekends from October 27 th to January 21 s t and is open to young people aged 16-19 from across Stirling. The Film Academy is an opportunity for creative young people with a passion for film and media to get an insight in to the film industry, receiving high quality training in key craft areas such as screenwriting, directing, production, sound recording, editing and cinematography. The participants will also get the chance to meet and learn from masterclass guests with years of experience in television and film as well as working towards making their very own short film and attaining a formal NCFE qualification: Preparing to work in the film industry. In the past, this Academy has proven to help progress the majority of its participants on to college and university to study Film or courses related to the creative industries, and has helped get individuals internships and employment in to the film industry.
