USA MUSIC TOUR Sydney Boys Music students toured three states in USA in the term 1 holidays. From New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans, musicians collaborated with composers and participated in master classes. Kevin Ke was selected to be in the team to contest the Asian Physics Olympiad in Hangzhou, China. Ke 4
ROWING Head of the River war cry and the U15 SBHS Quads win gold and bronze medals at CHS Regatta. BASKETBALL First Grade and Second Grade Basketball were able to be GPS Premiers for the first time in the School s history. At the Basketball dinner Dr Jaggar spoke to the audience of 375 in the Great hall and announced a Second Grade honour board will be displayed in the main building to commemorate all Second grade premierships won by High. 5
DRAMA Sydney Boys and Sydney Girls Drama and Music students put on Guys and Dolls in June. RUGBY Jacob Katafono Yr 11,Sam Musgrove Yr 12, David Kim Yr 11 and Nigel Zhang Yr 10 (not pictured) all represented the Combined High Schools Rugby teams in their respective age groups. 6
SWIMMING The High relay team with Kevin Guo, Kalem Best (who also broke the 14s 100m record at 59.00 sec), Jake Rowlands and Christian Haddo (who also broke the 100m backstroke record at 70.54 sec). This promising younger High team was unable to overcome a strong Shore team who went on to win the event by the narrowest of margins. High finished second. FENCING Our boys performed extremely well at the Fencing National School Team Championships in Brisbane on 13 of June. The SBHS Sabre Team won Gold: Chi Mao, Chen Yu Wang, Garry Huang, Simon Nguyen and the The SBHS Epee Team A won Silver: David Huang, Lut Ming Chan, Arthur Chao and John Tian. 7
CRICKET Old Boy Sam Robson, opening batsman for the England Cricket team, presented the 1st and 2nd XI caps. The 1st XI won the annual Cec Rubie Cup against Melbourne High School with three boys, V Avudainayagam, V Nomula and R Sura making the combined 5 Highs Team. The team, A Walters (Coach), V Kashyap, R Saha, S Arvind, V Murugananthan, R Sura, R Dai, S Nampalli, G Tesoriero (Manager), V Nomula, P Yu, K Subbanna, J Pope, R Hossain, V Avudainayagam (Captain). Roy Lin, Alex Yeung, Lenny Han and Edward Belokopytov won Gold in CHS Opens Table Tennis Championships.. Lenny and Edward also won the Schoolboys Shield Senior Division. 8
GOVERNORS CENTRE The Governors Centre is a state of the art multi-purpose educational facility that will give our boys the greatest opportunity for development in the areas of performing arts, music, debating and public speaking. Sydney High School Foundation is raising the funds needed from our supportive community. Over 70% of the necessary funds have been raised to date. The level of support demonstrates the commitment and passion of our school community. The Governors Centre will have a 400 seat, air conditioned theatre and a 200 seat examination centre which will allow flexible uses at other times. The Governors Centre is a joint project with Sydney Girls High School. The building will front Cleveland Street, located between the two schools on the site of the former Caretaker s Cottage offering easy on-site and external access. ART CAMP and DEBATING In March Year 11 Visual Arts and Year 10 Visual Design and Visual Arts students spent three days at Arthur Boyd s Bundanon and Riversdale property, exploring the artist s studio and home and making their own art and design works in response to the spectacular landscape. The Eastside Year 12 debating team won the final for the seventh consecutive year. Well done to Max Koslowski, Ganeshmoorthy Chandrasekaran and Thomas Shortridge for keeping our winning streak going! 10
YEAR SEVEN CAMP Early in the year Year Seven headed off on their three day camp to forge new friendships and participate in fun and challenging outdoor activities. CROSS COUNTRY At the Invitational Trinity carnival the U16 s team of Luke Schofield, Jayden Schofield, Nicholas Katsilis & Eric Holmstrom broke the Scots College record by one minute and 15 seconds, with a finishing time of 34: 33 minutes. 11
