C O N TA C T A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER WEEK ENDING: FRIDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2018 END OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS Parents/Carers will receive a letter about the arrangements for the last day of term. Students will finish school at 12pm. We look forward to welcoming students back at 8.30am on Monday 7th January 2019. MUFTI DAY THURSDAY 20 TH DECEMBER 2018 We will be raising money on the last day of term for the LSU Debrabant School in Tanzania by having a mufti day. Students may wear their own clothes but are asked to keep our expectations of what sensible, appropriate dress is, particularly given the cold temperatures outside. This is our last weekly newsletter of the term. You will receive Contact Extra next week which shares our events across the term including articles on our recent Year 9 trip to Ypres, the Advent Tea Party that we hosted for the senior citizens in our community and our carol singing events. May the celebration of the birth of our Saviour touch your lives with many graces especially in your families and may the New Year bring you many blessings. GOD BLESS MRS CONNOLLY BLESSING As we wait for Christmas Day it is important that we use this time to draw closer to God. It is so easy to fill these days with shopping and celebrations. The real message of Christmas is an invitation to ensure that Christ is at the centre of our celebration and then do all that we can to strengthen our relationship with him. PRAYER As we wait for your coming Lord, we think of Mary and her part in your birth. May we accept you into our lives and welcome you this Christmas. With Mary, may we always be open to hear your call in our lives. Amen CATHERINE WILLIAMS CHAPLAIN Communicating with parents/carers during adverse weather conditions - Opencheck On our school website there is a tab for Opencheck on the home page. If we have adverse weather conditions, Opencheck enables parents to see whether their child s school is open. You can check the status of our school as well as other local schools on Opencheck. The school will only close if weather conditions are severe and would deem the school site or the journey to and from school to be unsafe. LOST PROPERTY Items such as P.E. kits, coats, scarves, gloves etc. will be on display in the Dining Hall next Wednesday, 19 th December during the lunch time period only. Please remind your daughter to check these items if she has lost anything. Other lost items such as pencil cases, glasses, watches, purses, keys, USBs etc. can be claimed from Reception during break, lunch or after school. MRS D DE SOUZA (RECEPTION) 1

JACK PETCHEY AWARD WINNERS FOR THE AUTUMN TERM 2018 Precious in Year was our first winner to be nominated. She was nominated for being a real driving force behind raising Mental Health at school. Her commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of students is looked after is commendable. Precious has decided to use her 250 to purchase a Cyber-Bullying DVD and books for staff and students on Wellbeing and Mental Health. Zoe and Andrea, both in Year 9, were also nominated for a Jack Petchey Award this term. Zoe is a model student at St Catherine s, She takes part in many clubs and contributes positively to the wider life of the school, including the Future Chef competition in which she is produced some amazing food. She acts as an excellent role model for younger students and consistently does the right thing. She gives the best she always can and is great at asking for help when needed. Andrea shines in Art and has a passion for the subject. The Year 9 students have put their money together to purchase journals for Year 9 students which will be used in form time activities next term to support wellbeing. MISS ALMEDER YEAR 8 BENCHBALL TOURNAMENT On Friday 7th December, St Catherine s held the last of the inter-house Benchball tournaments. To play a game of benchball you must have at least ten players. Motivation was key - the sports hall was filled with noise as team members shout to each other telling them tactics which would soon come in handy. As the week was coming to a close after the other year groups had participated, Adele was coming in last but on Friday the two Year 8 Adele forms brought it back by coming first and achieving 1000 house points. Angela came in second with 750 house points, Frances third with 500 house points and Cecilia were fourth with 250 house points. GRACE 8AD2 2
