PLAYING SPORTS What does my student need to do if he/she wants to play sports in the 9 th grade?
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FROM MIDDLE TO HIGH SCHOOL Grade Point Average a 2.0 Registered in 4 classes at IRHS **After the first semester in High School, the student must pass 3 of 4 classes and continue a GPA of 2.0 After the second semester, IRHS will take the better of the two GPA; either cumulative or by semester (GPA 2.0)
FAILURE TO MEET THE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS The athletic director, academic advisor, and coaches work together in assuring your child meeting the Chesapeake Public Schools standards for high school participation. (GPA 2.0 and pass 3 out of 4 classes) If failure to meet the 2.0 GPA requirement should occur, Chesapeake Public Schools offers a one time probation semester of play with a mandatory study hall/tutoring to occur to assist in boosting your child's academic status. Tutoring/Study hall is offered at IRHS right after school and the athlete will report to his/her practice with a pass to be excused from the time missed at practice. If a student s sport is not in season, there is a bus that will provide transportation to your neighborhood.
