THE ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT (AQAR) OF THE IQAC Name of the Institution : Government College for Women Chintamani, Chikkaballapura Dist., Year of Report : 2004-2005. PART A The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. The IQAC met in the second week after the reopening of the college and decided to initiate measures to achieve quality in all aspects of the college. It was decided to improve the existing physical infrastructure of the college particularly construction of the class rooms with the assistance of the grants from the Government of Karnataka. It was also decided to improve the results of the college in the University Examination by means of qualitative and innovative methods of teaching to the best satisfaction of the stake-holders of the college. It was also decided to engage the classes punctually and regularly as time under the semester pattern is restricted. The construction of class rooms has become a mater of paramount importance as the existing class rooms have asbestos sheets. In fact, the peer team of NACC at the time of the assessment and accreditation of the college opined that the asbestos sheets of the existing class rooms should be replaced as early as possible from the point of view of health and hygiene. Improvement of Physical infrastructure is one of the requirements of the quality education. There is a considerable improvement in the results of the college as a result of the sincere efforts made by the teaching faculty in both the semesters of the current academic year. Sincere effort would be made to bifurcate the laboratories which are jointly shared by this college and the neighboring Government college for boys in order to provide effective laboratory service to the students.
PART B 1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the college: The academic and administrative activities of the college for the current academic year went on smoothly without any obstacles. The college successfully conducted the activities of the NSS, NCC, & sports and cultural Association to the best satisfaction of the stake-holders of the college. The class tests, assignments and seminars have been conducted by the college in accordance with the calendar of the events issued by the university. The committees constituted by the Principal in the beginning of the year achieved significant results in various academic and administrative aspects of the college. The college released the annual magazine of the students in the month of May 2005. The magazine throws light on the
creative skills of the students. The prospectus supplied by the college to all the students at the time of admission contains various facilities and infrastructure available in the college. 2. New academic programmes initiated: A proposal was sent to Bangalore university for the affiliation of a new course BBM and Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science (PMCS) Combination in the existing Bsc., course. In the present content it is there worthwhile to mention the fact that there is a great demand for BBM course from the students and Parents. Management courses have assumed a great significance in this era of globalization and liberalization. 3. Innovations in Curricular design and transaction: As it is an affiliated college, the Boards of studies of the university design syllabus after collecting the opinions and views of the concerned subject teachers. The enlisting syllabus has been designed to cater to the needs of the semester pattern. It enables the students to face global competition in an effective manner. The syllabus has been prescribed keeping the demands of the industry in minds. The Board of studies in English has introduced communication skills in the first two Semesters keeping the directive of the Inter University Board in mind. Communication skills play a vital role in the corporate sectors as a requirement of the employment. 4. Inter-disciplinary Programmes started: -NIL- 5. Examination reforms implemented: The college conducts university Semester examinations in a transparent manner. The Principal of the college is the custodian of question papers. The internal examination squad constituted by the college is very effective in curbing examination malpractices. The squad constituted by the university also visits the college to monitor the exams. The college conducts examinations in the fair and transparent manner without giving scope for any kind of malpractice. The Co-operation extended by the members of the non-teaching staff during the university examinations is admirable. The college enjoys the confidence of the university with regard to the examination-oriented works. 6. Candidates Qualified: NET/SLET/GATF/etc.: The college is yet to maintain the data pertaining to the candidates appearing for GATE examinations. However, an effort would be made in the due course to maintain the data. 7. Initiative towards faculty development programs : As the college is yet to be included under section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC act 1956, there is no scope
for deputation of teachers to FIP. However, a sincere effort is being made to include the college under the above sections as early as possible. 8. Internal recourses generated: The college development council of the college under the chairmanship of the local MLA is very active and it intends to mobilize funds for the growth and development of the college. 17. Details of departments getting SAP, COSIST (ASSIST) DST, FIST etc., assistance recognition: NIL 18. Community Services: The NCC, NSS units of the college regularly participate in the community service programmes. The units conduct special programmes to create awareness about HIV, dowry evil, drinking, environmental pollution, illiteracy, corruption etc., the college, in collaboration with the legal services cell of the taluk, conducted legal awareness camps for the students of the college. The Honorable judges of the local courts were present on the occasion.
19. Teachers and officers newly recruited: The Government of Karnataka recruited and posted during the academic year 2004-2005. -NIL- 20. Teaching: Non teaching staff ratio : 2 : 1 21. Improvements in the library services: The college intends to take up the automation of the library as soon as it improves its Physical infrastructure. 22. New books/journals subscribed and their costs: The library acquired 324 new books (7651 already existing books) at a cost of Rs. 32,600/-. Total books : 7975 A proposal has been sent to the Government of Karnataka for adequate grants to purchase books for the central library to meet the growing strength of students. 23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback : Student assessment of teachers has been introduced in all the three UG courses namely BA/Bsc/BCom. The negative remarks made by the students have been brought to the notice of the concerned teachers for corrective measures. The college is also in the habit of getting the oral feedback from the students. The Principal monitors the feedback from time to time. 24. Computerization of Administrative and the process of admissions, examination regulate and issue of certificate: The college intends to take up the computerization of administration and the process of admission, examination results and issue of certificates as soon as it gets non teaching staff and physical infrastructure. 26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities: The college improved a little in its infrastructural facilities pertaining to equipment and books with the assistance of the grants received from the Government of Karnataka. 27. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students: Efforts are being made to get adequate grants from the Government of Karnataka to acquire computer and internet accesses to all the members of the staff and the students. 29. Financial aid to students : Financial aid is provided to the students of SC, ST and OBC by the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka in the form of various scholarships every year. The students also make use of various types of merit cum poverty scholarships provided by various NGOs. 30. Support from the Alumni Association and its activities: The Alumni Association of the college came into existence during the academic year. The old students of the college participate in the important activities of the college. They also extend their support to the Principal in solving various types of problems. 31. Support from the parent - teacher Association and its activities: The Parent - teacher Association of the college is active and functional. The parents have established a good rapport with the Principal and faculty of the college. They visit the college regularly to know the progress of their wards. They are helpful to the Principal in solving students related problems. 32. Health Services : The College does not have a health centre. However, it provides health services to the SC/ST Students with the financial aid from the Department of Social welfare" Government of Karnataka. The NSS and NCC candidates render their services in the health camps organized by various NGOs. 33.Performance in sports activities: The Sports persons of the college participated in the inter collegiate sports competitions organized by the Department of Physical Education of Bangalore university. The talented and meritorious sports persons were felicitated on the occasion of sports and cultural activities day. The college is trying to get a permanent Physical Education Director posted to the college to monitor sports activities. 34. Incentives to outstanding sports persons : The college is in the habit of rewarding the outstanding sports persons by presenting them suitable topics and certificates on the occasion of the College Day" at the end of the year. They are also given track
suits as a measure of encouragement and appreciation. Every year the college administration identifies the outstanding sports persons. 35. Students achievement and awards : The Students of the college take an active part in all kinds of regional and national level competitions from time to time and the students are awarded and rewarded on COLLEGE DAY" celebrations. Such students are identified, recognized and respected by the college. 36. Activities of the Guidance and counseling cell : Smt. C. Aswatamma, SGL in history and Sri. N.V. Venkatashivareddy, SGL in History have attended training camps at NIMHANS, Bangalore, to render guidance and counseling to the needy students. The counseling cell is very active in the college. 37. Placement services provided to students - NIL 38. Development Programmes for non-teaching staff: The Department of collegiate education conducts training programmes for the non-teaching staff on regular basis. The members make use of the programme to provide quality services to the stake-holders. 39. Best Practices of the Institution: The college constitutes an internal examination squared to monitor all the semester/annual examination. The college rise to the occasion in times of natural calamities. The college is in the habit of celebrating all National festivals including "Kannada Rajyostava" with traditional Zeal and enthusiasm, it invites very important persons on such occasions to address the students. 40. Any other relevant information: The college intends to send a proposal to the UGC for the inclusion of the college u/s 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC act. 1956.
PART - C Detail plans of the institution for the next year. The college intends to improve its physical infrastructure with the assistance of the grants from the Government of Karnataka. A Sincere effort would be made to further improve the results of the college. As a matter of fact, a proposal has been sent to the Government of Karnataka for the sanction of a grant of rupees one crore. A sincere attempt would be made to initiate quality measures in all academic an administrative aspects of the college.
