Being sensitive to this fact, RDIAS organized its annual sports event by the name of SPIRIT-2017 on October 7, 2017. The source of motivation for the students to participate in the event was the fact that sports has been an integral part of many successful people who are doing exceptionally well in their lives. Besides it s the spirit of sportsmanship that teaches individuals to stay competitive in every sphere of life and give their best shot in every situation. Organized by: Event Committee 2
FORM B Part 1 Aim of the event: Students pursuing professional education have to learn many other skills besides the conceptual class room teaching for ensuring their all-round development. The Field sports provide them the platform wherein they learn skills like co-ordination, teamwork, leadership techniques and time management which go a long way in ensuring that they have a successful professional and personal career. Winning is not everything but making the effort to win is Continuing with its tradition over the past years, this year too, RDIAS organized its most coveted annual sports event SPIRIT, 2017, which included a plethora of sports competitions spread over a week that culminated with most of the finals being held on October 7, 2017. The indispensability of sports in life cannot be undermined as sports and games impart a sense of discipline, fellow-feeling and togetherness among the participants. They teach the value of time and how it is important to note how a minute, a fraction of a minute and even of second decides the fate of a young sportsman in the field of competition thereby inculcating respect for time among the participants. With regular participation and proper training in sports and games, students become meticulous, assiduous, diligent and are capable of meeting the challenges in future life with ease and confidence. Sports and games are the right avenues to channelize the hidden energy and vitality of students and make their leisure hours worth while as well as meaningful. The spirit of competition is inculcated in most cases by sports and games gives the students an edge over their contemporaries. Importance for physical fitness is something that is of paramount importance and can t be ignored at any cost. The greatest educational value of the sports and games is that it acts as a catalyst in igniting the true potential of the students which pushes them to work hard in all the endeavors of life including studies and education. 3
Part 2 Abstract: Sports day is an event that is most eagerly and anxiously awaited by all the students. This was evident from the fact that students had reached the RDPS sports ground well in advance on the grand day. The event commenced with the inaugural ceremony marked by the formal Ribbon Cutting by the honorable Chief Mentor, Dr. Raman Garg. Post inauguration, the sports events commenced with boys 200 meters race being the first athletic event followed by other races. Besides races, the competition included Volleyball, Basketball, Long jump, Kho-Kho and the star event- Tug of War, for both boys and girls. The enthusiasm seen in students and staff was unprecedented and commendable. The events held on October 7 were preceded by the Cricket Tournament held from September 30- October1, 2017. Throughout the event, adequate arrangements for medical care, drinking water and energy drinks were ensured. After the completion of all the sports events, felicitation ceremony was held. The first position holders were given Gold Medals, second position holders were given Silver Medals and third position holders were given Bronze Medals along with certificates. The event concluded on a high note with the winners feeling accomplished and those who did not win, resolving to try harder next year. The highlight of the event was the mature and immaculate display of sportsmanship by all the participants irrespective of the results. They participated, teamed up, cheered, chatted, won, lost and learnt, all with the same zeal and enthusiasm. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the objective of the event was achieved. 4
Conclusion: Sports does not build character, it reveals it. The discipline, patience, courage, and optimism learnt on the playgrounds are the qualities that lead to victory not just in sports but in all the aspects of life. It is with this objective that the event SPIRIT-2017 was organized and it managed to achieve it in its true sense and meaning. The event culminated on the note that we shall meet again in the next year on the playground being more resolute, hungrier for success but above all with the firm belief and intent that being defeated is not losing but quitting surely is.
