ASSOCIATE DEGREE FOR TRANSFER SUMMARY: SB COMPLIANCE September, The Associate Degree for Transfer ( ADT) is the Degree with a Guarantee. California Community College (CCC) students who earn an ADT will: Leave the Community College System with an Associate Degree Have a clear transfer pathway to the California State University (CSU) Start at CSU with Junior status The ADT streamlines the transfer process by eliminating the repetition of similar courses at the upper division level. With the ADT set at no more than units and the CSU upper division requirements also set at units, students will earn a unit Bachelor s Degree. BACKGROUND In, SB (Padilla) established the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act which states that commencing with the academic year, students who earn an ADT will have been eligible for transfer to a CSU baccalaureate program. The intersegmental SB Implementation and Oversight Committee guided the program through development and continue to meet today. To establish which degree programs an ADT would be available to students, a Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) was developed for each discipline. These TMCs serve as a blueprint to guide local development of ADTs. The TMC defines the collection of courses that students will take on their pathway to a Bachelor s Degree at a CSU. Each TMC is a result of collaboration between the Academicc Senate from the California Community Colleges (ASCCC), CSU and CCC administrators, faculty, students, and Chancellor s Office staff. These TMCs are also built on the common Course Identification Numbering System (C ID). SB REQUIREMENT DISCIPLINES THAT HAVE AN ADT* Administration of Justice Anthropology Art History Business Administration Communication Studies Computer Science Early Childhood Education Economics Elementary Teacher Education English Geography Geology History Journalism Kinesiology Mathematics Music Philosophy Physics Political Science Psychology Sociology Spanish Studio Arts Theatre Arts RECENTLY FINALIZED Agriculture Business & Food Industry Management Agriculture Animal Sciences Agriculture Plant Sciences Biology Chemistry Film, Television & Electronic Media Nutrition & Dietetics *As of // NUMBER OF COLLEGES THAT OFFER To increase the number of Degrees with a Guarantee, the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act was amended to include the requirement that CCCs develop an ADT in every major and area of Page of

ASSOCIATE DEGREE FOR TRANSFER SUMMARY: SB COMPLIANCE September, emphasis offered by that college for any approved TMC (SB, Padilla, Statutes of ). To date, fifty six () CCCs have met this obligation and forty seven CCCs were one or two away. Some CCCs have reported that they may not meet the obligation because of the difficulty in keeping their high unit majors (Computer Science and Music for example) within thee mandated unit cap. For colleges still developing ADTs, the CCCCO Academic Affairs Division is providing technical assistance to assist the CCCs in meeting their obligations. Colleges that met the SB August Deadline. Among these active ADTS, moree than ADTs developed in disciplines where the colleges didd not previously have an Associate Degree. As more TMCs are released, colleges have months to develop ADTs in that discipline if they already offer an AA/AS in that major and TOP Code. Subsequently, as more TMCs are approved, students will have more options to earn the Degree with a Guarantee. Page of
