Philosophy of Our Feeder Program The philosophy of Knox JHS and The Woodlands College Park is to promote students strengths in key subject areas. To enable the best educational opportunities possible, it is encouraged that students take at least 1 AP course in high school so that they will be more prepared for the rigors of college.

The Registration Process Counselors will meet with all 7 th graders during History regarding course selections and give Course Selections Sheets to all students in the weeks to come. Online this year (New process for Knox) Placement into Academics Evaluate students based on recommended performance and or prerequisites Math acceleration classes are from June - July Course Verification Sheets are not schedules or guarantees Will be sent home in early April
Placement Decisions Choosing a class is a commitment for the year Please review your child's verification sheet sent home early April If changes are needed please drop them off in the front office at Knox May 1 deadline We will not be able to change schedules after May 1 Hire proper staff for children Equalize class size for all children s learning Availability The final deadline for Knox JHS is May 1
Adventure into Academics Core subject Information
Required Courses 8 th grade level or Pre AP Language Arts Mathematics Science US History Physical Education (Athletics, Cross Country, Cheer, Gingham Girls or Private P.E. substitute for a P.E. class on campus) Electives 5 choices
Semester and Final Exams All classes will take semester exams in December and May The exams are usually cumulative The exam will count 10% of the semester average Exams for Algebra, Geometry, Spanish, Health, Comm. App. count 15% (high school credit)
Enrichment Classes All students will be reviewed over the summer Students needing assistance will be placed in a STAAR Enrichment Class Previous years will be examined as well Students not passing Reading and Math STAAR in 8 th grade may not be going on to 9 th grade.

Spanish I 1-Year program (8 th only) Will receive one elective high school credit upon completion Must take Spanish II in 9 th grade to fulfill high school graduation requirements Will count as a foreign language credit in high school Students must earn an 85 average in their 7 th grade Language Arts class Spanish for Native Speakers is an 8 th grade course only for students who are already fluent and want the rigor of writing and reading Spanish.
