The annual Crossing the Tracks tradition began with the 2011-2012 Temple Middle School eighth grade class crossing over the tracks to their next phase of education at Temple High School. Since that initial event on May 22, 2012, the Crossing the Tracks event has become not only an important transition process, but a community celebration where the eighth grade students are presented to the high school principal on top of the tracks. Then they proceed to the high school in a parade-like fashion with Sage Street lined with families and community members wishing them well and capturing the moment. The students are welcomed at Temple High School with the Temple High School Band playing the fight song and students and staff cheering them into the gymnasium where Mr. Gribben and several high school students provide a glimpse into the upcoming year. The assembly consists of students talking about their experiences at Temple High School and the teachers/administrators talking about the expectations for ninth grade students. The event concludes with the rising ninth graders signing a banner where they commit to graduating from high school and a final resounding cheer of It s A Great Day to Be A Tiger! 12
