We are all looking forward to making it a special place for children to go and have already started thinking about how we will decorate it and make sure it is a lovely addition to our school. You may also have noticed several men on the roof and around the school! These men are updating our wiring so that our computer network runs more efficiently and we can begin to improve the computing infrastructure at the school. I have been fortunate to be able to get outside to watch a few more of the sporting fixtures this week. I thoroughly enjoy seeing all the children compete and represent the school with such enthusiasm. The girl s football team particularly impressed me this week with not only their fabulous team spirit, but also the excellent sportsmanship that they showed in every game. They were a credit to the school at all their fixtures this week well done girls! It was also great to watch the year 5 girls play their first netball game of the year. They all showed some great potential and clearly enjoyed every minute! There have also been successes on the basketball court and the chess board. The Chess team should be extremely proud, coming second by only 1 point one of the closest finals we have ever seen. I have no doubt that they will continue to go from strength to strength. We really do have a very talented group of children at Crabtree. It is wonderful to see them making the most of all the opportunities and really participating fully in all areas of school life. I am looking forward to seeing you (or not as it will be incredibly dark) at the school fireworks display tomorrow evening. It is always a fantastic event and my thanks go to all those who have been involved in the organisation. We are lucky to have such a dedicated parent team. What do they enjoy doing? What do they aspire to be then they need to turn that into a costume and, for a small donation to Children In Need, come dressed to impress next Friday. Year 4 - Hindu Workshop The children will be taking part in their Hindu Workshop next Wednesday morning. One of the activities involves face painting with water based paints. If you do not want your child to have face paints can you please let us know by close of play today. Thank you. Also, the children are invited to bring 2 to buy a small keepsake from the shop if they would like to. Chess Tournament Congratulations to our Chess Team who finished runners-up in the District Tournament. The children have been attending Chess Club on a Friday morning to improve their game and their hard work and dedication certainly paid off. Well done to all the team.
Boys Football League 2018-19 We played our first league game before half term against Redbourn. The boys enjoyed putting into practice all the skills that Mr McGloin has been working on with them. The A Team had an exciting end-to-end match with chances from both sides but unfortunately finished with a 0-0 draw. They then played a friendly extra 10 minutes where we managed to find the back of the net so that should give the boys confidence for their next game. The B Team played some great football and put our goal keepers under a lot of pressure but we made some great saves. Girls District Football Tournament The girls ended their football season by attending the District Tournament. The girls played well and worked hard but we were unsuccessful in reaching the final.
School Uniform The prefects are doing an excellent job of returning lost property to children; however they are struggling to read the names in clothing because they have worn off. Could you please take a moment to firstly check that your child s uniform is named and also that it is legible. Thank you. Trading Card Games There have been an increasing number of children getting very upset when playing trading card games, for this reason we have taken the decision to ask you to not send these games in with your child with immediate effect. Thank you. School Closure The school will be closed to pupils on Thursday 7 February 2019 for polling, as our hall is being used for the Harpenden Planning Referendum. Apologies for the inconvenience caused, we have spoken to St Albans Council about finding an alternative venue but no other local facilities meet all of their requirements. Curriculum Presentation Change of Date The curriculum evening planned for Friday 15 November is being re-scheduled to take place during the first half of the Spring Term date to be confirmed. In addition, in the New Year, we plan to offer you the opportunity to come into school to learn more about how we teach English and Maths to your children. E-Safety What games should I buy for my child this Christmas? We re the VSC Rating Board whose job it is to review every video game released in the UK and then apply an appropriate age rating. We do this using the PEGI rating system you ve probably seen our symbols on game packaging. Our ratings aim to ensure that you get to make informed buying decisions for your children. We will be giving a presentation on our work and how you can keep your children safe in the gaming world: 7pm Wednesday 21 st November St. Helen s CE VA Primary School, Brewhouse Hill, Wheathampstead, AL4 8AN We would urge you to come along and attend our presentation. We are sure that you will find it useful and informative. We re keen to show you, with video examples, why we rate games, including some of the more mature games as we do. It will also give you a chance to let us, the UK video games regulator, answer any questions you may have about video games and your kids gaming habits. Most importantly, we can go through any games that are on your children s Christmas list and explain what PEGI rating it received and why! Due to the nature of the content, this presentation is for adults only. Hope to see your there! Stars of the Week
