Graduation Requirements All students must earn 26 credits to graduate. Classification: 0 5 ½ Freshman 6 11 ½ Sophomore 12 18 ½ Junior 19 + Senior 9 th graders will not have a rank/gpa until their 9 th grade year is complete. EOCs: Algebra 1, Biology, English 1, English 2 & US History
Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) To provide students with the most post graduate options, all MISD students begin on the Distinguished Level of Achievement plan. To be eligible for the state s Top 10% Automatic Admission to colleges and universities, students must complete the DLA.

Credits Students will have the opportunity to earn 8 credits per year Students are given the opportunity to earn a total of 32 credits over the span of 4 years.
School Year Structure on Home Campus 18 week classes = 1 semester = ½ credit Example: Health, PE, Keyboarding (These courses are identified on the Course Selection sheet with an asterisk.) 36 week classes = 2 semesters = 1 credit Example: English 1, Algebra 1, World Geography, Biology, Art 1, Theatre Arts 1
Ben Barber Innovation Academy Career and Technology courses at Ben Barber may be 1 credit-2 credits. One credit courses at Ben Barber are 18 weeks long. Typical School Day Home Campus Classes start at 7:25 A.M. Classes end at 2:55 P.M. A/B Block with 4 classes per day Ben Barber Session I begins at 7:00 Session II begins at 11:30
9 th Grade Course Selection Students chose their courses through their 8 th grade Career Pathways classes. High School Counselors met with all 8 th graders either in the fall or last week. Please review the 9 th grade courses in Skyward under the Career Plan tab. If your student would like to make a change, you will have the opportunity to do so until April 23 rd. Please watch for the Course Request Change form that will be available the week of April 2 nd.
Clubs & Extra-curricular Activities
Clubs High School will provide an opportunity for involvement in many clubs and organizations. We highly encourage participation in extracurricular activities. Studies show that students who are involved in extra-curricular activities make better grades and are better prepared for life during and after high school.
Extra-curricular Activities Athletics Coach George will share more information Cheerleading and Drill Team determined by tryouts in the spring. Other activities include class officers, club officers, One Act Play, UIL Band and Choir contests, Academic UIL, ROTC, Student Council, theatre production/ stage crew, Key Club, NHS, FCA, HOSA, etc
Attendance Students are allowed 4 absences per class per semester. 5 or more absences in the same class will result in an absence failure. Students are responsible for clearing excessive absences with their assistant principal. Students will have to attend afternoon or Saturday School sessions in order to regain credit according to the campus schedule.

Freshman Athletics 8 th grade boys currently in athletics are allowed to sign up for football and basketball. 8 th grade girls currently in athletics are allowed to sign up for volleyball and basketball. Volleyball and girls /boys basketball require tryouts. If students do not make the teams, they will be removed from the athletic blocks prior to school starting for volleyball or the 2 nd semester for girls /boys basketball. Football is the only non-cut sport. Other sports tryouts are listed on the next two slides. Students will not be added to any other athletic block without coach s permission. Coaches will communicate with the counselors.
