2 Agenda for InU Curriculum Development Seminar 19 October INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS-BASED EDUCATION Outline of M.A. program in Maharishi Science of Consciousness Bringing fulfillment to individual life and society through experience and knowledge of consciousness For use in all Consciousness-Based higher education institutions [ed. June 2013] Length of MA program: 11 months including winter and spring breaks; followed by three- or four-month focus on one area Theme of the program: Understanding and experiencing the fundamental principles of the Science of Consciousness, and how these bring fulfillment to 12 areas of society Goal: To gain deep experiential and intellectual realization of the foundation of knowledge in consciousness, gaining the means to bring practical solutions and increasing fulfillment to different areas of society Objectives of the program: The students will 1. gain increasing mastery over the fundamental principles of Science of Consciousness, both experientially and intellectually; 2. appreciate how the Science of Consciousness illuminates and deepens the understanding of 12 areas of study; 3. become familiar with the Consciousness-Based applied programs in each of the 12 areas to bring solutions to challenges in each area, and raise each toward its highest ideal, with focus on one particular area 4. develop higher levels of intellectual ability, including analysis, synthesis, and evaluation; 5. develop higher skills in expressing the knowledge they are gaining through presentations, charts, and the use of computer technology; 6. develop greater skill in working harmoniously with others, increasingly appreciating others contributions. Pre-requisites for enrolling: Practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique and Bachelor s degree in any subject Typical format for 4 days each week Morning: Lecture by faculty expert, appealing points by students, integrative activity using the knowledge-action-achievement-fulfillment cycle; reading out prepared questions and answers from students (like SCI course) Afternoon: Video lecture by Maharishi and/or other international experts; readings; integrative activity; and student summaries of the day. Friday and Saturday: review of the week; student writing related to lectures; preparing creative presentations with the main ideas; learning relevant computer software; etiquette

3 Agenda for InU Curriculum Development Seminar 19 October Curriculum Outline 44 weeks SEMESTER 1: CONVERGENCE SEMESTER INCREASING SYNTHESIS TOWARDS THE SELF (22 weeks) 1 WEEK: Introduction to Consciousness- Based Education and the M.A. Curriculum Day 1 - whole MA in hour with big chart of whole program Unique features of Consciousness-Based education as brought to light by Maharishi, including curriculum design according to the Damru structure, 1-hour orientation: classroom etiquette, dress code, orienting them in the environment: medical, fire, other legally required information Introduction to Consciousness-Based design of courses and lessons, teaching methods and materials Review of three days of checking in three days, end of afternoon, 90 minutes, with group meditation. with short talks by Maharishi for each of 3 days 3 days of teaching the entire curriculum in brief 5 WEEKS: Maharishi Science of Fundamental Themes Maharishi Science of 6 themes 1. Three sources of validation of the Science of Consciousness (1) Scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs and modern scientific principles; (2) Ancient, timeless knowledge of total natural law; (3) Direct experience of developing higher states of consciousness 2. Transcendental Consciousness, the Self, as the basis of everything Descriptions from the timeless knowledge of the Self and from modern quantum physics in unified field theories; qualities of this field of the Self; how this field is enlivened through the Technology of Consciousness 3. Sequential unfoldment of universe through the Self interacting with itself as knower/known/process of knowing Includes Self-referral functioning as the basis of creativity in nature and human life 4. The nature of life is to evolve Dynamics through which change naturally takes an evolutionary direction toward fulfillment 5. Knowledge is structured in consciousness Knowledge is different in different states of consciousness; how knowledge is gained in different states of consciousness Includes 1 week of the 16-hour course Higher States of Consciousness: Maharishi Speaks on the Seven States of Consciousness 6. Creating coherence in Collective consciousness through the Maharishi Effect Scientific principles and research Introduction of the 4 main principles of consciousness that will be examined in each of the 12 main areas of study in the following 15 weeks.

4 Agenda for InU Curriculum Development Seminar 19 October WEEKS: Principles of Each explored through 12 Disciplines increasing values of generalization, synthesis, convergence 1ST OF 3 WEEKS: Exploring the Self 1. Unified Field Chart for the discipline. Unified level of the laws of nature common to all disciplines and to individual and collective life; starting with the overview of the whole discipline, then focusing on the 3-in-1 structure, and how the interaction of the 3 gives rise to the whole discipline. 2. Deeper levels of the functioning of the laws of nature give greater mastery (1) Within the discipline itself focusing on progress within the field, one topic at a time. Faculty focus on specific aspects of their field to illustrate how a more profound understanding within the field gives greater mastery, e.g., in education, how deeper understanding of the physiology of how learning takes place improves teaching practice and curriculum design; in agriculture, how understanding of microbes and bacteria create fertility in the soil to make the use of toxic chemicals unnecessary (2) This principle applied to the awareness of the individual practicing the Technology of Consciousness who works in the field; how functioning with more of total brain potential affects insights, creativity, comprehension, innovation, operating at abstract levels to produce more useful, concrete results. The lecture brings out related scientific research for this second part. (3) Conclusion of this lecture: the deepest level of functioning of the laws of nature gives the greatest mastery of the field; role of Technology of Consciousness 3. Full development of consciousness provides the solution to longstanding problems in the field. The focus is on solutions to ongoing, fundamental issues or problems in the area, and how these are solved by raising individual and collective consciousness. For example in agriculture, for seasons to come in time; in education, preparing all students to be successful citizens; in health, to attain balanced public health 4. Through analysis and synthesis total knowledge is gained. Focus on the foundational levels of the discipline, using the Unified Field Chart, showing how foundational principles of the discipline integrate a broader range of parts into a bigger whole, expressing the principle that through analysis and synthesis more holistic, useful knowledge is gained. For example in education: The conceptions in a society of individual potential, how knowledge is gained, and the knowledge worth knowing give rise to the theories of education that shape the entire eduational system. Holistic knowledge is missing in all areas; Transcendental Consciousness is the means to understand holistic knowledge in any area. Conclusion: Ultimately, discovery of finer and finer parts in bigger and bigger wholes culminates in the finest impulses of intelligence experienced within the biggest whole, our own Self. Faculty connect with the total knowledge based understanding of the discipline. 5 Agenda for InU Curriculum Development Seminar 19 October SEMESTER 2: DIVERGENCE SEMESTER APPLYING THE KNOWLEDGE TO IMPROVE ALL AREAS OF SOCIETY (22 weeks) FINAL 2 WEEKS Exploring the Self 15 WEEKS: Principles of each explored through 12 Disciplines increasing values of application, analysis, divergence Overall theme: The dynamism within the silence of the Self Dynamics of creation giving rise to the laws of nature; perfectly orderly sequential unfolding of natural law; 4 stages of the creative process of natural law; the Constitution of the Universe; 40 qualities of total natural law in human physiology; Established in Being, perform action Each week of the 12: Lecture 5 (Day 1) Parliaments of World Peace, 2006: (1) Maharishi s talk on the area; (2) leading expert; (3) related scientific research = 3 hours; plus exercise by students locating the principles from first semester in these 3 talks Dr. Volker 20-minute talks on a key modern scientific principle relevant to both the discipline and the Science of Consciousness for each of the 12. Lectures 6 and 7 (Days 2 and 3) Applied programs from Maharishi in the discipline, the foundation being the understanding and experience of the Self 1 WEEK: Final synthesis Lecture 8 (Day 4) Bringing fulfillment to the highest goals of that area life in harmony with natural law through the Science and Technology of 2 levels: (1) the goals achieved as a result of that area of life in harmony with the evolutionary direction of natural law; (2) results for a person acting in that field Day 5 and 6: Review of the week; learning relevant computer applications; writing skills; students work on their creative presentations for the week Theme: Living totality of life through Maharishi Science and Technology of Consciousness all 12 through Brahm Unity Consciousness GCWP Maharishi's Master Plan to Create Heaven on Earth, Ideal India, Celebrating Perfection in Administration, Celebrating Perfection in Education, etc.) 1 WEEK Review of the year Students study, synthesize, and present 1 WEEK Students final project and paper, synthesizing the knowledge of the M.A. program from a particular angle; presentation to students and faculty Jai Guru Dev
