3 Multilingual Matters Topic Title Description Audience Co-teaching Newcomers Special Education Literacy Content t Takes Two: Using a Variety of Co-Teaching Models Celebrating the Little Victories with Newcomers on their Advancement towards Proficiency Co-Teaching MLLs in the nclusion Classroom Using Daily 5 and RLA in a Co-Taught Literacy Block Cooperative Learning Strategies that Support ELLs in Mathematics Are you looking for ways to use two teachers effectively in your integrated ENL Class? This workshop is co-presented by two integrated ENL co-teachers and is designed to explore a variety of co-teaching styles you can utilize in your classes. Working with Newcomers can be stressful, but don t sweat the small stuff, embrace it. Learn how to work with the Common Core, content teachers, and the students to make those little moments of progress into small victories. Participants will gain additional knowledge and best practices for working with diverse learners with special education needs in an inclusion setting. Additionally, participants will learn how to leverage technology, scaffolding, and differentiation to meet the needs of the multilingual learners in an inclusion classroom. n this presentation, we will describe the process of forging a strong co-teaching relationship as we reimagined literacy instruction through small group work using the RLA (ndependent Reading Level Assessment) and the Daily 5 to meet the needs of students of diverse English proficiency levels. This session will describe several interventions that were used to support ELLs in mathematics at Jamestown High School. n addition to being ELLs, the students who received the interventions had other risk factors (low socio-economic status, literacy, numeracy). After the interventions, 100% of the students passed the algebra regents exam. K-6 K

4 Bilingual Technology NYS Requirements and nitiatives NYS Requirements and nitiatives Writing ncorporating Translanguaging in a Bilingual Classroom nstructional Technology for ESL Teachers The New York State Seal of Biliteracy - Setting the Stage nitial dentification and Placement Requirements under the New CR Part Bridging the Spoken and Written Word Multilingual Matters The objective of this workshop is to provide a brief overview of Translanguaging and its implementation in bilingual classrooms. This presentation will focus specifically on utilizing Translanguaging to develop student s language and strategically aid in their comprehension. Throughout this one-hour workshop, participants will be engaged in conversations and activities around a digital learning environment and the use of classroom technology resources to assist English Language Learners & bilingual students. Participants will be shown a variety of instructional strategies and resources as well as websites to assist all levels of learners in the classroom. Participants will leave the session with instructional strategies and resources to use with their students immediately. A great session for beginning teachers as well as teachers who just want to expand their technology toolkit! Participants will get a glimpse into how one school from Buffalo is implementing the criteria set forth by the NYS Board of Regents surrounding the prestigious distinction of the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. This workshop will review what is needed to conduct the NYS initial ELL identification and placement process from start to finish. Creating a meaningful connection between the spoken and written word is a challenge for literacy teachers. This workshop revisits the Language Experience Approach and its creative

5 Multilingual Matters method of utilizing the student s own words and experiences to build not only literacy, but self-esteem, as well. Scaffolds for higher level ELLs nternational Home support Content Support Scaffolding Rigorous nstruction for Transitional and Expanding Students Sprekt u engels?': Fulbright Learning in the Netherlands Effective Methods and Techniques to Support Emergent Bilinguals at Home Anchors Away: How to use anchor charts to support classroom diversity. Research-based strategies and tricks of the trade emphasize making content and language learning explicit for all learners, but especially for our transitioning and expanding students. This workshop will focus on establishing an environment built for success, what aspects of reading, writing, speaking, and listening that need to be explicitly taught, and how to scaffold your instruction through the year. This session will discuss opportunities for international teacher exchanges, many in non-english speaking countries, and present a case study of the Dutch education system. The purpose of the presentation is to share effective methods and techniques to support emergent bilinguals at home. A team of multilingual parents and ESL educators will outline, discuss, and exemplify multilingual teacher and parent recommendations including technology application to assist with efficient communication between multilingual parents and schools. Teachers will learn the importance of implementing anchor charts throughout all content areas and the benefits those charts have for ELLs. Teachers will also be given time to make anchor charts to bring back to school with them for immediate use in their classroom.
