3 > Clovis Police Arrest Two Home Invasion Robbery Suspects On June 10 1 h, Clovis Police detectives arrested two home invasion suspects, a man and a woman, in a crime that took place just after 3 o'clock in the afternoon on December 14, As you may recall, three boys under the age of 18 were in the house at the time. One of the suspects hit a 17-year-old in the face with a handgun. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of a cut lip. All three victims' hands had been duct taped together. The robbers specifically targeted and ransacked a home in the 3300 block of Loyola, although there is no direct connection between the victims and the suspects. The thieves stole items such as money, jewelry and electronics. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. Arrested were 41-year-old Christopher Copeland and 21-year-old Breanna Allen both of Fresno. They are charged with Home Invasion Robbery and 3 counts of false imprisonment. Copeland was also arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (a firearm). He is being held in the Sacramento County Jail on a warrant for the home invas.ion and for a Federal probation violation. AVOID the 21 Grant Funds DUI Checkpoint in Clovis The Clovis Police Department arrested a drunk driver in a DUI checkpoint on Thursday, June 12th, as part of an AVOID the 21 grant program anti-dui crackdown effort. Nine hundred and seven cars went through the checkpoint at Clovis Avenue and Pico between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Seven unlicensed drivers were arrested along with three more who were driving on suspended licenses. Clovis police officers are taking part in the on-going Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest program. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Clovis Police Corporal Lonnie Amerjan Receives Two Honors Chief Matt Basgall and members of his Command Staff accompanied Clovis Police Officer of the Year Lonnie Amerjan to the Clovis Hall of Fame Awards Gala on June 14th at the Veterans Memorial Building. Corporal Amerjan was recognized for his professionalism, values, hard work and dedication, and for the time he donates to various community events when off-duty. Three days later, Corporal Amerjan was honored again, this time in Santa Clara by the State of California 40 & 8, which selected Lonnie as one of the top two esteemed police officers for This American Legion branch, with chapters across the country, is known for its elite membership and camaraderie. Congratulations, again, to Clovis Police Corporal Lonnie Amerjan.

4 Three Clovis Officers Bring Home Gold from U.S. Police Games Two Clovis Police officers and one retired Clovis Police corporal each brought home a gold ~ medal from the U.S. Police and Fire Games in San Diego this month. Officers Jim Ellenberger and Eric Taifane joined the Flag Football "Central Valley Combo T earn" and each officer came home with a gold medal, as did retired Clovis Police Corporal Vernie Miller in Women Class A golf. Way to go! Members of Local Law Enforcement Run for Special Olympians Clovis Police Officer Jesus Santillan helped to organize and run in the 2014 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run this week. The run began at Chukchansi Stadium at 8 a.m. in downtown Fresno and ended at the 500 Club at Shaw and Willow Avenues in Clovis. Officer Santillan worked with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol to make this event a local success. Professional athletes participating in the run include: Lorenzo Neal (NFL), Cameron Worrell (NFL), Ricky Manning (NFL), Terrance Frazier (MLB), Josh Koshcheck (MMA), Lavar Johnson (MMA) and Josh Thomson (MMA). Officer Santillan has represented our police department for the past several years in organizing and running in this event to raise money for our Special Olympics Athletes here in Clovis and Fresno. The 500 Club presented a $5,000 check for our Special Olympics Athletes when the event wrapped up at about 11 :00 a.m. Clovis Police Chief Matt Basgall Swears-in two new Police Officers Officer Guiseppe Chiaramonte, a lateral officer from Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office, and Jordan Hunter, a Fresno Police Academy graduate, took the oath on June 16th at the Waterfall inside Headquarters.

5 Community Outreach to Families at 1300 Minnewawa The Clovis Police Department teamed up with local churches, the Clovis Fire Department and management at the Lexington Square apartments to host a barbecue for families on June 20th. Clovis Police officers barbecued while children participated in games and enjoyed the bounce house with parental supervision. The :...---~ program was designed to encourage healthy living and interaction with our law enforcement officers and other mentors who attended.
