Your lab report should look like: In the top section of the report, write the title of the lab. On the right margin, write the names of the students in your team, date and block. Write the following subtitles on the left margin of the report and underline them. Purpose: Come up with one or two sentences summarizing the goal of the lab. Ex. To separate five components of the mixture. Materials: List out all materials used to separate 2 components. Refer to the handout for the correct names of the tools. Don t forget to write the mixture number and what makes up the mixture. Procedure: In a point form, write step by step procedure to separate 2 components. Draw the main separation set up and label it. Tip 1: Make each step simple. Tip 2: Ask yourself this question: Can my family member follow the instruction without asking me a single question? Safety: List five safety rules that are appropriate for this lab. For the following three sections, simply write the subtitles on the left margin of the report and leave all sections blank. Observations: Discussion: Conclusion: ***Double check to make sure you have all of the following in your report before handing it in!!!***! Title (middle)! Names (right)! Date (right)! Block (right)! Purpose (subtitle on the left)! Materials (subtitle on the left)! Procedure (subtitle on the left)! Safety (subtitle on the left)! Observation, discussion and conclusion (just the subtitles on the left)

11 Chemistry 11 Lab 2D Separation of a Mixture by Paper Chromatography Report Format Complete the pre-lab (all underlined sections) before coming to the lab. Collect observations and data during the lab. After completing the required discussion questions and the conclusion, double check if all sections are present in correct order before handing in the lab report.! Name! Date! Block! Lab partner s name! Title! Purpose: Come up with one or two sentences summarizing what you are trying to do in the lab! Materials: List out all materials used in the lab. You can copy the list from the lab manual! Apparatus: Draw the chromatography set up just as Figure 2D-1! Procedure: Using a flow chart format or point form, draw and write step by step procedure The procedure is clear enough for you to conduct the experiment without referring to the manual.! Safety: List five safety precautions for the lab using your own words! Data: This section must be written in PEN only (Erasable pens such as FriXion is not acceptable) Copy the data tables similar to lab manual and include appropriate titles BEFORE coming into the lab Complete the data tables during lab period If the data table ends up being messy, you may type up the result, but ensure to attach RAW data with the lab report.! Observations: Include any observation you made, paying attention to how fast each component of solute moves on the filter paper Complete during lab period! Discussion: Answer Questions 1-5 from lab manual! Conclusion: Statement that seek whether the purpose of the lab was met successfully Should be around 2 3 sentences long Address source of error and how the lab can be improved ***Double Check to make sure you have all the sections listed in your report with subheadings!!!***
