4 Assessment and Additional -Diagnostic The Tool is given to determine each student s strengths and needs according to PA Core Standards. Teachers will use the results to make decisions regarding whole group and small group instruction and to track student progress over time. Classroom Diagnostic Tool (CDT) IRLA easycbm (HMH) The District will analyze students results to determine effectiveness of the curriculum and pacing guides. Science CDTs may be scheduled and administered at the building level. CDTs can be administered a maximum of 5 times throughout the year. Schools may use the CDT for test windows in addition to the dates listed on the calendar. Scores of additional test windows will not be tracked by the district. Student scores are available in DRC immediately upon the completion of the assessment. DRC individual student s reports are to be used for one on one conferencing, goal setting with students, and for immediate instructional decisions. -Diagnostic The IRLA is a shared listening framework for teachers, parents, students, and administrators, K-12, that is both a Developmental Taxonomy of Reading and a nuts and bolts series of checkpoints and learning supports for mastery of the Common Core Standards. The Independent Reading Level Assessment (IRLA) gives teachers a sensible, helpful, rigorous, bias-busting lens with which to watch and analyze the actions and thinking of students as they are doing meaningful work. In using the IRLA every day, teachers develop the expertise needed to provide on-the-spot, targeted, and immediate useful feedback to any and every child, K-12. American Reading Company, 2015 The IRLA is scheduled to be given to all first, second, and third graders during the first month of school. Throughout the remainder of the year teachers should NOT stop instruction and give the IRLA to the entire class. Students will complete the IRLA when they are showing signs of being ready for the next level of instruction. -Benchmark easycbm is a tool used to measure students progress in their development of mathematical skills. is provided in the categories of numbers and operations, geometry, measurement, algebra, and data analysis. Teachers will use results to make decisions regarding whole group and small group instruction and to track student progress over time. Assessment is available as an instructional level progress monitoring tool for students in grades 3-5 who score below the CDT Math Red average scale score. easycbm individual student s reports are to be used for one on one conferencing, goal setting with students, and for immediate instructional decisions. 5 Assessment and Additional Constructed Response Items Formative (building level) and Summative (district level) The constructed response common grade level assessments provide students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of grade level content and writing to standards-driven problems. The results of the constructed response items are to be used formatively by both teachers and students to evaluate current strengths and needs and to set goals for future teaching and learning. The District will analyze students results to determine effectiveness of the curriculum and pacing guides. items are selected based on curriculum and instruction guides. Explicit information for alignment of CR items to standards and curriculum is provided for teachers annually. To increase the reliability of scoring, Coaches will spend time at coaches meetings scoring items and collaborating on scoring decisions. Protocols for scoring are provided to schools and are expected to be used. Protocols for instructional use of scored items are provided by the district and are to be used with students for goal setting and tracking of progress. Student results must be returned to students. Writing Prompt (K-2) Work Sampling System (pre K) ACCESS/Alternate ACCESS for ELLs PSSA/Keystone/PASA The K-2 Writing Prompt was designed to be a common assessment across the district that aligns our writing instruction to the PA Core Standards. The intent is for all students to develop as writers in each domain beginning at the kindergarten level. Protocols for scoring are provided to schools and are expected to be used. Teachers are expected to use scored work to conference with students for goal setting and tracking of progress. Student results must be returned to students. The Work Sampling System will be used to measure student performance against the core standards across all domains of learning. The data will be used to generate report card scores. The ACCESS for ELLs is designed to measure language skills in the area of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Both academic and social English is measured. The results of this assessment support instructional decision making for teachers and programmatic decisions at both the school and district levels. PSSA is a standards-based, criterion-referenced assessment used to measure a student s attainment of the academic standards while also determining the degree to which school programs enable students to attain proficiency of the standards (PDE). The Keystone exams are end-of-course assessments designed to assess proficiency in the subject areas of Literature, Algebra I, and Biology. (PDE) The Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA) is a statewide alternate assessment designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities (PDE). JAR
