6 Buzzi Bodies for Young Children Developing gross motor skills is an essential part of the domains of development. Gross motor skills are essential because a child s body develops from large movements with arms and legs to smaller, more refined movements of the hands and fingers. Gross motor control enables children to develop the fine motor movements that are essential for success in the school years.

15 Buzzi Bodies for Young Children In addition to the development of gross motor skills, Buzzi Bodies activities are adapted to cater for ALL Pre-school and Foundation Phase outcomes. We emphasize skills for everyday tasks e.g. Reading, writing, memory and listening skills.

16 Buzzi Bodies for Young Children The Buzzi Bodies programme can be adapted to cater for children with different needs. Specially designed activities and equipment may be used to assist a child, e.g. Who uses a wheelchair, With low muscle tone, With auditory processing or Sensory integration delays.

17 Why are Fine Motor Skills Important? Fine Motor Skills enable people to do many things in daily life... Using our fingers, hands and arms. Fine motor skills consist of reaching, grasping, manipulating objects and using different tools like crayons and scissors.

18 Activities that require fine motor skills: Zipping and Buttoning Picking a flower Writing Cutting with scissors Turning pages of a book Brushing Teeth Opening a door Shaking someone s hands Painting Drawing

19 Benefits for the children: Develop gross and fine-motor movement, balance, locomotion, spatial relationships, co-ordination, rhythm & timing, strength and flexibility.
