1 Arkansas Comprehensive School Improvement Plan The mission of Lakeside Intermediate School is to provide each student a quality education in a positive, equitable, and encouraging learning environment. We will endeavor to create opportunities in which each student shall develop and apply the necessary skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and technology to become a contributing member of the twenty-first century. Benchmark: Intervention To develop,plan and improve phonemic awareness and phonics instructions within the comprehensive literacy program. Stipends will be distributed for after school training. Activities will include but not be limited to alignment of the language arts to the Common Core State Standards. Provide each teacher a grade specific copy of their curriculum alignment with checklist for mapping. Parents will be informed of student progress in phonemic awareness and phonics at parent/teacher conferences and through newsletters. Parents will also be informed of student progress with IRI and AIP when appropriate. Computer generated data will also be used to identify students needing extra assistance with Response to Intervention. 4 Intervention To develop,plan and improve phonemic awareness and phonics instructions within the comprehensive literacy program. will attend Common Core training through Dawson Co-op, ADE, Lakeside School District, Arkansas and International Reading Association, and phonemic awareness and phonics and other Professional Development opportunites with monies provided in our district plan. The DIBELS Nonsense Word Fluency(NWF)will be administered to all 2nd grade students at the beginnng of the year. Diagnostic assessments will be administered to students at risk of reading failure. Map Assesment scoring information will be utilized to make instructional decisions, AIP, IRI progress monitoring and special education monitoring. Action Type: AIP/IRI Action Type: Parental Engagement All 2nd grade will provide daily systematic and explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics instruction. The instructional lesson will be 10 to 15 minutes daily. The phonics skills will be reinforced throughout the reading block. Students identified as not meeting the expectation for success will receive additional phonics instruction in small groups. Progress will be monitored until the expecation is met and maintained. Action Type: Parental Engagement Fluency instruction for all students is aligned with the ELA framework standard 11. A pacing/mapping guide is in place. The DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) will be administered to grades 2-4 one time each year to identify those students who are on track for reading success as well as those who may be at risk for reading difficulties. Progress will be monitored. All students 2-4 will participate in Fluency Instruction. Students identified as not meeting the expectation for sucess will receive additional fluency instruction in small groups. 8 Intervention Implementation of Higher Order Thinking Strategies to increase vocabulary and comprehension in Reading and across all content areas.
