Contact Person Mr Joseph Miranda Principal s Foreword Introduction Our Lady Help of Christians School, Hendra caters for Prep to Year 7 with Outside School Hours Care available. We are a family friendly school, set in a quiet suburban street in the leafy suburb of Hendra. We have a close working atmosphere between School, Parish and wider community. We provide quality Catholic education curriculum based on the Queensland Syllabus and incorporating Christian values and ethos as expressed through our Religious Education Program. Over the past 10 years, the school has grown from approximately 70 students in 4 multi-aged classes, to near 200 in single classes today. T Our students perform very well in sporting, academic and cultural avenues, achieving results beyond their relative numbers. Under the guidance of successive 5 year renewal plans, cooperatively formulated by School, Parent and Parish representatives, close to $3,000,000 of Physical and Curriculum developments have been undertaken. 2 Curriculum offerings Our distinctive curriculum offerings Information and communication learning technologies integrated into everyday classroom experiences, with a high student/computer ratio. We are CRICOS registered and accept full-fee paying international students within set limits and employ a part-time specialist teacher to facilitate this program. An ESL teacher supports students who have English as a second language. A Virtues Program that teaches co operation, communication skills, problem solving while promoting self esteem. Our 3 B's (Be respectful, Be responsible, Be safe) form the 'building blocks' of our whole school positive behaviour program. LOTE (Japanese) is offered to our Senior classes - Yrs 6 and 7. Extra curricula activities Junior and Senior Choir After school Kids sport Drama - Shake & Stir Theatre Company Musicorp Program - Instrumental Music Tennis Program - Before and after school ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORTING
3 How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning At Our Lady Help of Christians we have data mounted projectors in all learning areas which are used extensively. Each class has a bank of desk top computers while banks of laptops are used on a rotational basis throughout the school. The NSP Grant enabled a new wireless network with a fibre-optic backbone to be installed. Twenty four new laptops were purchased for classroom use. Under the BER P21 Grant a new library and computer lab have enhance our ICLTs. Social climate Our Lady Help of Christians is a Catholic co-educational primary school which has been providing quality education since We cater for students from Prep-Year 7 and our school family encompasses both the school community and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish. Our Lady Help of Christians community strives to provide an education for the holistic development of each student towards the full realisation of their potential within a value system based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our school community is supported by a Pastoral Care team comprising of a School Pastoral worker, School Counsellor, English as a Second Language teacher and STIE (Support Teacher: Inclusive Education) A Virtues Program and Positive Behaviour Program work together to provide a secure harmonious and challenging environment conducive to learning and self enhancement.
