The scientific discovery generally referred to as Raman Effect mainly refers to the phenomenon blue molecules scatter more than other colours due to lower wavelength and that is the reason a non-cloudy appears blue. The theory when applied to liquids when a laser beam is incident on liquid the angle of refraction differs with the chemical composition of the liquid. Conversely, we can detect the chemical composition of the liquid by measuring the angle refraction. Identification of chemical composition of paints, and other paramedical substances. This principle is being made use of also in many modern applications in identifying the biochemical effects including detection of cancer etc. Raman Scan, in Lidar (Light Intensity Detection) are in the offing. Towards the end Dr Purnachandra Rao was honoured wrapping a shawl and with a memento from IEI VLC. The vote of thanks was proposed by Er. D.V. Rama Krishna an Executive Committee Member, IEIVLC.

4 Name of Centre: Lecture on Distortion Mitigation using TMT and Heat Sink and its Effect on Hardness and Micro-structural Aspects MR Date: Venue: Hotel Rockdale, Visakhapatnam Er. Amit Bhatnagar,FIE, Chairman,IMEI & Committee Member of IEIVLC delivering speech and view of Dais Speaker, Mr.P.Mohan Ravikumar, Surveyor, IRS, Visakhapatnam The technical meeting for the month of June was jointly conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India), Visakhapatnam Local Centre, with Institute of Marine Engineers (India) at Hotel Rockdale, Visakhapatnam on 18 th June A paper titled Distortion Mitigation using TMT and Heat Sink and Its Effect on Hardness and Micro-structural Aspects was presented by Mr. P Mohan Ravi Kumar, Surveyor, IRCLASS. At the outset Chairman, Er. Amit Bhatnagar, FIE Vizag branch IMEI and Committee Member (MR),IEIVLC, welcomed all the member for the joint meeting and introduced the topic and it s relevance to the shipyards involved in Navy & Coast Guard ship construction and the fabrication industry in particular. Mr Ravi Kumar deliberated that due to the usage of thinner structural components making them more vulnerable to buckling, to obtain optimising the power and speed of the ship.in order to eliminate or mitigate these distortions during design and fabrication stages various distortion mitigation techniques can be applied which can save time, repair cost and avoid post remedial measures. The paper covered two distortion mitigation techniques Thermo Mechanical tensioning (TMT) and Heat sink is applied in thin plate panels and its effect on distortion is studied. TMT is a method of distortion mitigation by counteracting the compressive forces developed due to welding of stiffeners.tmt has been applied by positioning lugs in line with stiffeners. Whereas, Heat sink is applied by sprinkling water through a pipe beneath the plate surface during welding. Before applying heat sink, optimum position of heat sink is finalized by analyzing its quenching effect on microstructure changes, Hardness, and distortion. A large number of members from both organizations attended the technical presentation. The paper was well appreciated and an intense question answer session was meticulously responded by Mr. Ravi Kumar. Dr O Rama Mohana Rao, Honorary Secretory, IEI, Vizag Branch was also present during the presentation. The author was presented with Branch memento at the end of the presentation.

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan former Vice president of India was once the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. Sir CV Raman was a student of Andhra University from Mrs. AVN College. Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was instrumental in coming up with a novel idea of sinking two ships in the outer Harbour of Visakhapatnam to prevent off shore waves inundating the harbour. Dr Visvesvarayya who served all the southern states and the Bombay presidency in some capacity or the other conceived many projects and completed them as per time schedule for the benefit of the nation. The present generation of engineers should take him as a role model and emulate his service and discipline in serving the nation. Chief Guest has been felicitated during the Celebrations. Keynote Speaker, Shri Wilson David, Executive Director (Projects), Vizag Steel, RINL, said that Skill building or Skill development is the need of the hour and as Senior Engineers it becomes our collective responsibility to work towards it. The Indian Economy: Industries received much priority soon after Independence, and Industrial production has come a long way in being the backbone of the Indian economy. India is classified as a newly industrialized country and is one of the G-20 major economies. The Indian Economy is the seventh largest economy in the world and has the potential to become the third largest in another ten years. Our economy rests on various industries, revenues coming in from various sectors. The Indian economy has identified the core sectors from among the many industries and the core sectors are Coal, Cement, Gas, Refinery, Fertilizers, Steel and Power. The definition of core sector differs from country to country and from time to time. For example, for a country like Norway, Fishing Industry is a core sector. India is currently a major exporter of IT, BPO and Software services and the IT industry continues to be the largest private sector employer in India. The software industry may also find itself among Core Sectors, in the future.
6 Vision 2025: India Vision 2025 gives guidelines for changes in the field of industry to make India a strong economy by Well skilled Young Engineers are required to meet the demands of our rapidly growing economy. Our Prime Minister has set target of creating 500 million globally employable workforce before 2025.The five sectors, which are identified with the expectation to create majority of employment are infrastructure, auto, building and construction, textiles and transportation. Er. S.Satyanarayana, FIE, Technical Expert on Irrigation Projects, Government of Andhra Pradesh spoken on Life and Achievements of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya elaborately and said that One of the most eminent engineers ever produced by India, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, better known as M Visvesvaraya, was a man of high principles and discipline. An engineer par excellence, he was the chief architect behind the construction of the Krishna Raja Samara Dam in Mandy which helped to convert the surrounding barren lands into fertile grounds for farming. An idealistic person, he believed in simple living and high thinking. His father was a Sanskrit scholar who believed in providing quality education to his son. Even though his parents were not financially rich, the young boy was exposed to a richness of culture and tradition at home. Tragedy struck the loving family when his father died when Visvesvaraya was just a teenager. After the death of his beloved father, he struggled hard to get ahead in life. As a student he was poverty stricken, and earned his livelihood by tutoring smaller kids. Through his hard work and dedication he eventually became an engineer and went on to play a pivotal role in designing the flood protection system in Hyderabad. He was decorated with numerous awards and honors for his relentless contributions to the country. During Celebrations, IEIVLC honoured Prof. Dr. Ch.
