1 HAIG GIRLS SCHOOL 860 NEW UPPER CHANGI ROAD SINGAPORE Telephone: Facsimile: Ref No: S26/ 14 Sep Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome Back Welcome back to the final term of the school year. I hope you all had a lovely break and managed to enjoy some family time! We have so much to look forward to this term and we will make the most of our time together before the end of the school year. We are also delighted to welcome the following to the HGS family: Ms Beth Chew, Allied Educator (Learning Behaviour Support) Celebrating Learning and Achievements We are pleased to share with you the learning and achievements of our pupils in the Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Information & Communication Technology, Performing & Visual Arts, Sports and Uniformed Groups. We are proud of our pupils who have given their best and demonstrated our school values, including pupils who have taken part in various competitions and have not won awards. We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our teachers and instructors for their dedication and hard work, and to all parents for their support and involvement. Highlights of our key achievements in Term 3 are at Annex A. Teachers Professional Contributions We are pleased to inform you that our Aesthetics Head of Department, Miss Leu Yifang, is one of the twelve finalists for the Outstanding Youth in Education Award (OYEA). This award recognises excellent young teachers for their enthusiasm, energy and active involvement in the development of youth. Please join us in extending our warmest congratulations to Miss Leu. Our staff conducted professional sharing and lesson demonstrations of our school s good practices and innovative programmes at a range of platforms. Details are at Annex B. We received positive feedback about the quality of the professional sharing and lesson demonstration conducted. We are proud of our teachers commitment to professional development and their contributions to the education fraternity. Health Measures Prevention of Mosquito Breeding We would like to assure you that, throughout this year, the school has been diligently checking the school compound for mosquito breeding and eliminating all stagnant water spots. Fogging is conducted every week and the drains are oiled every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The grass is cut regularly. In addition, we have also installed electronic mosquito killers around the school. We have also enlisted NEA's assistance in eradicating mosquitoes. NEA has put up units of mosquito gravitraps to track the mosquito breeding condition around the school fencing area. So far during NEA s regular inspection of the school compound for mosquito breeding, no mosquito breeding has been detected within our school. NEA and the school have also been working closely with the Town Council to check for mosquito breeding outside the school fencing area. The well-being of your child/ward and our staff is our primary concern. We will monitor the well-being of our students and staff closely and adopt the necessary mitigation measures. To help keep mosquitoes away, students can apply insect repellent or put on mosquito patches. With effect from term 4, students going for outdoor learning journeys will be given mosquito patches. Students may also bring their own mosquito repellent and will be allowed to apply their own repellent where necessary at appropriate breaks during the school day. 1
2 Haze Management Measures We would like to assure parents that our school continues to monitor the haze situation and will take appropriate measures to ensure the well-being of our pupils and staff. An air purifier has been placed in every classroom. When air quality deteriorates, air purifiers will be turned on in classrooms with doors and windows closed. The school has prepared air-conditioned rooms with air purifiers for staff and pupils who have heart or respiratory problems and/or who are not feeling well. During the PSLE period, P6 pupils will take their exams in air-conditioned rooms with air purifiers. We will maximize the use of enclosed indoor spaces and air-conditioned rooms for all pupils, should the need arises. We carried out a Haze Evacuation Exercise in the last week of Term 3 to familiarize staff and pupils with the necessary precautions to adopt where necessary. Safety is our top priority, and we make every effort to ensure that all our students are safe, every day. Thank you for working together with us to make the school a safe place for our students as Safety is Everyone's Responsibility. PSLE Listening Comprehension, Written Exams & Marking Exercise The PSLE Listening Comprehension Examination will be held on Fri, 16 Sep. There will be no lessons that day for P1 to P5 pupils.
