1 NZQA Assessment Support Material Unit standard Title Demonstrate understanding of spoken information on familiar topics (EL) Level 3 Credits 5 Version 1 Student guidelines Introduction Refer to the unit standard document for the outcome, evidence requirements and grading criteria. THIS UNIT STANDARD CAN BE AWARDED WITH AN ACHIEVED, MERIT, OR EXCELLENCE GRADE AWARD OF GRADES For award with Achieved, understanding of spoken information is demonstrated by identifying the main points, specific details, and the overall idea of the text. For award with Merit, clear understanding of spoken information is demonstrated by identifying additional details. For award with Excellence, thorough understanding of spoken information is demonstrated by identifying the viewpoint(s) of the speaker version 1 ASM version 1 Page 1 of 5

2 This unit standard has one outcome: Outcome 1: Demonstrate understanding of spoken information on familiar topics (EL). Range minimum of two spoken information texts, each on different topics, assessed on separate occasions; minimum of three main points for each text; minimum of five specific details for each text. Conditions of assessment These materials contain assessment tasks for ONE spoken information text only. In order to complete this standard, you must successfully complete activities for two spoken information texts. In this task you will listen to someone who is talking to your class. Before listening to the text, you will be given time to read through the questions and check with your assessor if you need help to understand. You can hear the text again once only. Your spelling and grammar do not need to be perfect but your assessor needs to be able to understand what you mean. You will be given time at the end of the assessment to check your answers. Learner checklist To achieve this standard you need to show you understand the spoken text by: Identifying a minimum of three main points for each of two spoken information texts. Identifying a minimum of five specific details for each of two spoken information texts. These usually support the main points. Identifying the overall idea of the spoken information text i.e. what the text is all about. To achieve this standard with Merit you also need to: Identify additional details for each of the spoken information texts. To achieve this standard with Excellence you also need to: Identify the viewpoint(s) of the speaker in two spoken information texts. This includes their opinions and attitudes version 1 ASM version 1 Page 2 of 5

(M) Fill in the missing parts of the chart to show you have understood the text. Main points Qualities of a good forensic scientist: a). care, and b).
