1 International data on net enrolment ratio in primary education ALL COUNTRIS DATA SUMMARY SHT International definition For the global monitoring, total net primary nrolment rate in primary education is used. This indicator also includes children of primary school age nrolled in secondary education: total net primary nrolment rate in primary education is the number of children of official primary school age who are nrolled in primary or secondary education as a percentage of the total children of the official primary school age Population. primary and secondary education are defined according to ISCD97. Where more than one system of primary education exists within the country the most widespread or common structure is used for determining the official school age group. Process of obtaining data Data are gathered through questionnaires sent annually to countries which are typically completed by ministries of education and/or national statistical offices. Population estimates are provided by the UN Population Division. National sources nrolment are obtained from the Ministries of ducation or national statistical offices. Adjustments UNSCO-UIS, if necessary, adjusts nationally reported in order to take account of: 1) Net enrolment rates which exceed 100% due to inconsistencies between population and enrolment. In this case the indicator is adjusted by the Unesco Institute for Statistics (UIS) using a capping factor so that the Gender Parity Index of the new set of values remains the same as for the original values but setting the higher of the male and female NRs to 100% and adjusting the other values proportionately. When an NR exceeds 105 % is then considered dirty and it is not published. 2) Under-reporting (e.g. nrolments in a type of education such as private education or special education not reported by the country and/or nrolments in a part of the country not reported by the country). In such cases, the results if published will normally be designated as UIS estimates. 3) Over-reporting (for example, nrolments in other programmes which have been reported by the country together with nrolments at the primary level). In such cases, the results if published will normally be designated as UIS estimates. 4) nrolments of unknown age if they constitute more than 5% of the total (no estimation is made if they are 5% or less). nrolments of unknown age are redistributed across known ages. 5) Inconsistencies with the ISCD nrolment compiled by UNSCO-UIS are then adjusted to be consistent with the ISCD 1997 and therefore comparable across countries. Consultation with countries The principal UNSCO-UIS questionnaire respondents at the national ministries of education and the official UNSCO National Commissions for ducation are consulted prior to the dissemination of all related indicators. xplanation of discrepancies between global and national figures 1) Differences between national education systems and ISCD97. 2) Use of different sources. 3) Differences in coverage (i.e. the extent to which different types of education e.g. private or special education or different types of programmes e.g. adult education or early childhood care and education - are included in one and not in the other). 4) Differences in between national and the United Nations Population Division Population.

Indicator has not been published because of mismatches between the reference date for the ages of pupils and the reference dates for determining the age group of official primary school age. Nature of Country Data Country Data: The figure is the one produced and disseminated by the country (including data adjusted BY TH COUNTRY to meet C international standards) CA M G N Country Adjusted: The figure is the one produced and provided by the country, but adjusted by the international agency for international comparability that is to comply with internationally agreed standards, definitions and classifications (age group, ISCD, etc) stimated: The figure is estimated by the international agency, when corresponding country data on a specific year or set of years are not available, or when multiple sources exist, or there are issues of data quality. stimates are based on national data, such as surveys or administrative records, or other sources but on the same variable being estimated. Modeled: The figure is by the agency when there is a complete lack of data on the variable being estimated. The model is based on a set of covariates other variables for which data are available and that can explain the phenomenon (example: maternal mortality or slums, to a certain extent) Global monitoring data: The figure is regularly produced by the designated agency for the global monitoring, based on country data. However, there is no corresponding figure at the country level, because the indicator is defined for international monitoring only (example: population below 1$ a day) Non-relevant: The figure is not available because the indicator as defined for the global monitoring does not apply to the circumstances of the specific country, and therefore is not reported NA Not Available: A figure was not provided, or the method by which the figure was calculated is unknown
