2 2 SIRIUS COLLEGE 24 ANNUAL REPORT Sirius College was first established in 997 with only 28 students by a non-profitable organisation called Selimiye Foundation Ltd., in the north-western region of Melbourne, Australia. Sirius College is a non-denominational school which welcomes students from all backgrounds, regardless of race, colour, belief, culture or gender and caters for students from more than 25 different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Since its first operation, Sirius College has grown beyond expectations to meet the tremendous demand of the community and has managed to reach over 23 student enrolments across 5 campuses in 24. This was made possible by the full support of the community and their abiding concern and generosity. Sirius College is proud of its reputation as having the highest university offers in the North Western suburbs, remarkably, since its first graduates. In January 23, the school name was changed from ISIK College to Sirius College. The name change came into effect after lengthy discussions about the image of the school which had gradually became more diverse over the years. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and it has been used as a symbol of illumination and light by many cultures in history. Today, Sirius College plays a leading role in educating young generations with its academic excellence and disciplined education; and continues to contribute to the future of Australia. Sirius College is not only an academic school but dedicated to raising individuals with multiple skills in different areas such as sport, music and performing arts. aspirations empower visionary respect top performing productive diversity non-denominational proactive ambitions progressive innovative harmony committed dedication student centered proficiency teamwork knowledge encourage role model perseverance excellence quality enrichment caring success responsible

OUR VALUES Integrity Respect Inquisitive Empathy Knowledgeable Diversity Resilience Innovative Compassionate Optimism OUR HISTORY The Governing Authority of Sirius College is the Selimiye Foundation Pty Ltd. In 997, the Selimiye Foundation acquired Eastmeadows Primary School following its closure by the Victorian State Government, and established an Independent School named ISIK College. Eastmeadows Campus commenced its operation in 997 and offers a Prep to year 2 education program. Eastmeadows Campus is currently sectioned as Primary (Co ed) and Secondary (Girls only). Meadow Fair Campus commenced its operation in 25 as Upfield Campus and was relocated to its current site in mid 2. It offers a year 7-2 educational program. (Boys Only) Keysborough Campus commenced its operation in 2 and offers a co -educational program for years Foundation-2. 4 4 SIRIUS COLLEGE 24 ANNUAL REPORT VALUE ADDED Policy Updates W ith campus number increasing to five, it has become a necessity to unify our approach in certain areas to keep the Sirius College as one big family. For this, our policies went through a major update in 24 Debating Some of our campuses have debating clubs. In the Debating Club, students from years 7-2 improvised their speaking and argumentative skills. We have organised debating tournament within our debating clubs across our campuses this year. Dallas Campus Purchase It has been in the College s agenda to allocate primary school in Eastmeadows Campus to a different location leaving the main campus for Secondary Girls. The purchase of 5.5 hectare old Dallas North Primary in the second half of 24 served this purpose. Only grade sixes were located in Dallas campus in 25. The College is hoping to move its complete primary wing to Dallas Campus in 27. Art Exhibition In Term 4 of 24, primary students displayed their art work to school and wider community during this 4-day-event in school Library. Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou and local MP Frank McGuire has also visited the exhibition and acknowledged the students efforts. Kitchen Garden Program This program allowed our grade 4 students not only to grow vegetables in garden beds at school yard but also to cook them during food tech classes. A small contribution to a more sustainable world. The college is planning to extend it to other grades in 25. World Tours World Tours continue to be a highlight for year 2 students who complete their studies at SIRIUS College. The travel program promotes cultural awareness and understanding of the world around them. Students are also given the opportunity to particulate in humanitarian activities. The itinerary includes stopovers in several countries and major cities. To promote our relationship and understanding of our neighbours year students are given the opportunity to participate in an Asia trip. Students visit various Asian countries which allow them to be immersed in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Asia. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) In the College strategic intent developing Professional Learning Communities has been a priority not only at the campus level but at the intercampus level as well. We strongly believe teachers working together to identify essential knowledge and skills, setting common exams and using relevant and up to date students data to plan their teaching has and will continue to impact and student learning outcomes.

5 Pastoral Care. Our Pastoral Care Program (PCP) is concerned primarily with the emotional, academic and moral well-being of the students and is an integral part of the school culture. Each class is assigned a Pastoral Care Teacher (PCT) and Mentor who works collaboratively and in unison with the college s staff, parents and students to provide individual care and support in all areas of child and adolescent development. Student, school and parent communication To improve student, staff and parent communication Sirius College moved to a highly comprehensive student information system called COOLSIS. COOLSIS has empowered students and helped with their organisation and time management as their upcoming assessments are listed. Parents also have access to their child s assessment calendar and more important instantaneous access to their child assessment results. Students and parents are kept up to date with their academic progress and also any positive or negative behaviour as well as any absences or lateness. Extra and Co-curricular Activities An extensive array of extra and cocurricular activities was organized across the various campuses. Clubs and electives included: Arabic, Animation, Astronomy, Chess Choir, Debating, Dialogue, Drama, Environmental club, Fencing, Film making, Folk Dancing, Food Technology, Forensic Science, Horticulture, Glee Club, Instrumental Music, Math s Extension, Multimedia Ottoman History, Photography, Reading competitions, Robotics, Scrap-booking &Card making, Table Tennis, Tennis and Textiles. School Camps. We have a compulsory camping program for our grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 primary students. Our year 7 and 9 students are also involved in a compulsory camping program. Our Pastoral Care Program also involves interstate camps and activities for selected students in years 7-2. Student Representative Council Our SRC comprises entirely of student representatives from each class from years 7-2. The SRC at each campus aims to not only represent the student cohort but also organize engaging activities for students and various humanitarian and fundraising appeals throughout the year. Cabinet system In the secondary campuses the classroom structure was changed from the traditional home group based classroom where each home group is allocated a classroom to the cabinet system which involves students moving from classroom to classroom based on their subjects. The cabinet system has allowed the College to develop subject or department specific rooms full of relevant, attractive visuals and resources for student immersion. Mosart SIRIUS COLLEGE 23 ANNUAL REPORT 5 MOSART Student Effectiveness Program is an integral part of our home group program which has focussed on study skills. Study Skills are a valuable set of skills that affect all areas of our students academic development. The Student Effectiveness Program has been devised to include many other skills that are needed to improve students performance in school and in the workforce when they graduate. Sports Sporting activities have been an important part of our curricular and extra-curricular program. Our primary students actively participated in interschool sports. Our secondary students competed in the FUTSAL competitions and continue their involvement in national and international wrestling competitions.
