5 Lessons Learned Linked Learning builds bridges: But between school and real world application of knowledge between high school and life afterwards among discrete subject areas among teachers and students between the school, the university, and the community cultural divide between K-12, university, and community requires more intensive communication and better understanding among partners and commitment to a common mission

11 PRE-SERVICE COURSES, CONT. Science Methods: Final Project- prepare interdisciplinary units and lessons focusing on scientific and engineering practices/ skills and STEM careers demonstrate connections to cross-disciplinary collaborations.

13 STUDENT TEACHING PLACEMENTS Student Teaching placements in Linked Learning sites provide candidates a yearlong residency experience Current partnering districts include: West Contra Costa USD Antioch USD Oakland USD (including new partnership with the Education Pathway at Skyline High School)

14 INFUSION OF CO-TEACHING MODEL WITH LINKED LEARNING PLACEMENTS CSUEB is currently targeting Student Teaching residencies at Linked Learning sites with Co- Teaching training and support for Student Teachers and Master Teachers

15 LINKED LEARNING/ CO-TEACHING INFUSION. Through the Co-Teaching Model infusion, we aim to enhance: Student Teachers understandings of lesson design, delivery, and assessment practices Create an environment for Student Teachers to understand the intricacies of Linked Learning instruction through deeper, intentional collaboration with the Master Teacher and Colleagues Enhance the academic benefits of the K- 12 students in their classrooms

19 Highlights of the CPET Credential Program Central Valley Partnerships for Exemplary Teachers (CPET) 2014 Christa McAuliffe Award Winner The Christa McAuliffe Award has long honored exemplary teacher education programs at public colleges and universities that belong to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) that can document the success of their graduates improving P-12 pupil learning outcomes. Kremen School CPET program demonstrated effectiveness in producing P-12 learning outcomes and also demonstrated how we redesigned our programs as a result of data gathered.

20 CPET at Fresno State All Single Subject teacher candidates are enrolled in cohorts, with all cohorts, except one occurring within school district partnerships.

21 Highlights of the CPET Credential Program Teacher Candidates are prepared with a Linked Learning lens in two ways. 1. The Linked Learning focus (work-based learning applications within discipline areas) is infused across all cohorts and courses in the single subject credential program. A matrix of outcomes, assignments and applied field work guides the implementation of Linked Learning integration. Additionally, the educational technology course prerequisite includes a visit to a LL high school and integrated disciplinary unit assignment.

22 Highlights of the CPET Credential Program Teacher Candidates are prepared with a Linked Learning lens in two ways. 2. Fresno State has formed a South Valley Single Subject Credential Cohort in Porterville Unified School District. Students in this program take all courses in PUSD at Harmony Magnet High School. PUSD employees participate in the development of the teacher candidates, and Fresno State instructors participate in PUSD Linked Learning training.

23 South Valley Partnership Year One ( ) 12 students completed the cohort. Year two ( ) 19 students enrolled. The Partnership approach ensures districts can hire teachers knowledgeable of their district needs.

24 Next steps for Fresno State: Teacher Candidates will complete an externship during field experiences. Leadership cohorts will be implemented to ensure succession planning for future LL leaders in South Valley. z
