13 CLASSROOM PROCEDURE/EXPECTATIONS 12A ENTERING CLASS Line up in straight line on the lockers so that hallway traffic can flow. Enter class quietly, no talking, go to your seat. If you need to sharpen your pencil, do it when you first enter class, one at a time. Read the board objectives, get your materials out, and then immediately and silently do your warm-up. Materials captains will pass out any papers. Entering class is time to get to work immediately, not a time to visit for a while with a classmate. If you finish early, go to the makeup work center, read a library book, or do left-side journal reflections. LEFT SIDE REFLECTIONS On left side of journal, write max of 140 characters (Twitter style, includes spaces and punctuation) This is a summary of what you have learned from the previous lesson. WARM-UP Your warm-up is on the board and will be in the same place every day. See Entering Class procedure. Sometimes the warm-up assignment will be written in your journal, sometimes on paper or cards that are given to you. If paper or card, you will pass these in when instructed. Unless told specifically to discuss with partner there is no talking, whispering, or noise during warm-up. ATTENTION I will use several signals to tell you to come to attention, when I have something to say. When I make the signs that I will teach you, freeze; stop what you re doing, go silent, look at me, and listen. If you have a question, raise your hand silently and wait for me to call on you. 15 PASSING IN PAPERS 13A Students nearest the door will pass to the student on their left. When the next student receives the paper they will pass to next student on the left At the end, all the paper will be passed to the front only after they have received all the papers Teacher will pick them up from the student at the front of this row. I am going to time you each time. I want you to beat your previous time. MATERIALS Materials captains will pass out and collect all materials. Captains will start collecting materials 5 minutes before the end of class bell. OBJECTIVES At beginning of the period read the Content and Language Objectives on the front board. These will tell you what we re doing each day. HOMEWORK Homework is assigned Tuesday and Thursday, is due Wednesday and Friday at beginning of period. If you don t turn your homework in on time, you have to stay after school in the Wednesday Afternoon Learning Class. If you re absent, missed homework is due one day after you return. Homework will be given to Mr. Zamarripa at the door when you enter the class. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON LEARNING CLASS 4:20 5:20 in room 206. You may be instructed to attend for academic or behavior reasons. If so, and you fail to show, I will call the parent and require a parent conference at AMS. There will be times when students choose to attend for academic help or extra credit; if so, and the student ends up not showing, there will not be a parent call. SEATING ASSIGNMENT Sit in your assigned seat, no exceptions. The teacher will change seating assignments as needed for the class to function most efficiently and there will be no discussions during class regarding seating assignments. TAKING ATTENDANCE During Attendance you can look at any of the papers that we will be working on for the day or tweet a reflection in your journal or just look silently around the room. When I call your name say this word only "Here" do not answer for anyone other than yourself and do not explain why any student is missing from the classroom. CONFERENCE PERIOD My conference is 2nd period.

16 13B DISMISSAL The teacher (NOT the bell) dismisses the class. When I say Time To Clean Up Stand up besides your desk, put all supplies in the supplies box, pack up your backpacks, pick up all trash in your area (Through trash away as you exit the classroom), Stay standing until I say "Have a great day" TEXTBOOKS, JOURNALS, MATERIALS Textbook Captains will pass out books on days that we use the textbook. Textbook Captains remind class (5 minutes before the bell rings) for table leaders to send a member of his or her table to return all textbooks to the appropriate milk crate. STAYING IN SEAT Do not leave your seat without my specific permission. This means: Don t get up to sharpen pencil (use one of the half-pencils), use the garbage can, walk around, etc. Do those things as you leave the class. RESPECTING THE PHYSICAL CLASSROOM Treat everything in the classroom with respect. This includes books, materials, supplies, furniture, technology, walls, floor, etc. Vandalism is grounds for suspension. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS Silence during announcements and during Moment of Silence. Face the flag and stand respectfully and recite the pledges. If you have a note from Mr. Pruitt and show it to me, you will be excused from the spoken part only of the pledge. CLASS IN HALLS This applies to Fire Drills, walking to LCM, Cafeteria, other out-of-class activities. Walk in two straight lines, stay together within one arm length (no touching), do not talk or whisper. CLASSROOM GROOMING, MAKEUP Not allowed in class. (ex. Combing hair, makeup) PHONES, HEADPHONES No headphones; if teacher sees them, they get turned in to the office. No cell phones on unless teacher gives you specific instructions to turn them on. Otherwise, they get turned in to the office. Refusal for either will be immediate office referral. VOICE LEVELS Use appropriate voice levels in class. Except when a student is reading for the entire class to hear, no one should be able to hear your voice over six feet away, except in a real emergency. Teacher/student: 2 foot voice radius. Think/pair/share: 2-3 foot voice radius. Address the whole class: 10 foot radius

17 PARTICIPATION Participate in class, contribute your fair share to group work, respect others. Do not put your head on your desk, head on hands, do not sleep. Table Captain has the responsibility to make sure all team members are contributing. Table captains can report positive team member participation at the student center before or after class. VISITORS IN CLASSROOM Classroom ambassador greets the visitor, shows them to a seat, and explains what we re doing and why it s important. Hi, welcome to our class Sir, Ma am, we are working on and it is important because. Would you like me to find you a place to sit and watch? CLASS RULES 1 - Be on time and prepared. 2 - Follow instructions the first time they are given. 3 - Enter class silently and get started on your warm-up. 4 No gum, candy, food, sunflower seeds, etc. or drinks in class. Bottled water is OK. 5 Respect self, others, and property.
