Pre-requisites for this course is successful completion of Biology 3 or Biology 6 with a grade of C or higher. This class satisfies IGETC: Area 5B & 5C, CSU GE: Area B2. Required Text, Lab Manual, E-Access Human Anatomy by Fred Martini & Michael Timmons, Eighth Edition, Introduction to Human Anatomy Laboratory Manual & Safety Guide, Custom 2nd Edition for LAVC by E. Brockmann & P.. masteringaandp.com Course ID: MAPBYRD48430 Course Materials 1. Colored pens or pencils and highlighters 2. Scantrons (Quiz #815 and Exam 882-E) 3. Gloves (This will be discussed in class as we approach dissections) 4. Optional items: Post-its, Anatomy Flash Cards 5. Computer and printer access General Policies 1. Please be on time for class. Notify the instructor if you have a conflict that will result in a late arrival on a continuous basis. All chapter quizzes are given at the beginning of class. I do NOT allow make up quizzes. You will be allowed to drop 1 quiz grade. 2. Excused absences will require documentation by a physician or other official. You are responsible for withdrawing from class. I will give an F if you do not withdraw from the class by the designated date. Four absences can cause you to be excluded from the class. Therefore attendance is mandatory. There will be a sign in/out sheet for every class meeting or attendance will be taken. 3. Attendance in laboratory is mandatory when you attend class. Leaving early on a continuous basis will reduce your points as you will miss assignments. 4. If you miss a practical exam you will receive an Incomplete for that exam but only if you can demonstrate the ability to pass the class with a grade of C or higher. You will be allowed to make it up the next semester or after your final. Please notify me immediately if you will miss a scheduled exam.

If you are a student with a disability and require classroom accommodations, and have not contacted the Services for Students with Disabilities Office (SSD), do so as soon as possible (preferably within the first two weeks of class so accommodations can be made for the first exam. SSD is located in the Student Services Annex, Room 175 or call SSD at (818) or TTD (818) , to meet with an SSD counselor. If SSD has already sent the memo to instructor confirming accommodations required by the student for this class, please meet with me to discuss arrangements. 6. If you require accommodations for religious purposes, you must inform me in writing prior to the second week of class. You may also be required to provide written documentation from the clergy. 7. CHEATING is not tolerated at this institution. You can, at the very least be removed from the classroom for that class period by the instructor, thus receiving a 0 for that assignment and for that day s class material. Please read your schedule/student catalog for additional disciplinary actions. STEALING is also very serious and can result in disciplinary action as well. HARASSMENT of any kind or the use of DEFAMATORY remarks is not tolerated in this classroom. Please see the instructor immediately if any of the above situations has occurred. 8. Please see me during my announced/posted office hours or call for an appointment. The class break is not to be used as office hours. I need time to rest as well. 9. Please use the course materials appropriately. Many materials are expensive and some irreplaceable. I will give detailed instructions on the use of the materials and equipment. 10. Please turn off all electronic devices in class unless you have approval from instructor. Cell phones must at least be set to vibrate, no texting in class, no ear buds etc. No electronic devices are allowed on your person or area during testing, failure to comply will constitute cheating. You will receive a 0 for that assignment with further action taken. Laptops/tablets may be used for note taking and e-books not for social networking or personal s. If caught you will lose laptop or tablet privileges for the semester. 11. Please do NOT wear any type of hat during exams and quizzes. You are required to wear closed toed shoes during dissection labs and must be covered from neck to knees. Tank tops and spaghetti halters are not acceptable in the lab. If you are not appropriately dressed for lab, you will be excluded from participating in that lab. 12. There is to be no eating or drinking in the labs at any time. Smoking is restricted to designated areas on campus. 13. Some laboratories have the potential to get messy. You are responsible for leaving this classroom cleaner than the original condition upon your entrance. This includes lab equipment as well as microscope lenses and slides. Failure to maintain good laboratory techniques may result in a deduction of points. Homework Policy All homework assignments are on-line on the www. masteringaandp.com website. Homework must be completed by the due date and time in order to receive credit. Late assignments will not be accepted. Please check the site on a regular basis for announcements and the Documents section for lecture outlines. You are required to print and bring your notes and daily laboratory sheets to class on a daily basis, failure to do so. Please use your most frequently checked s on the site and link your district address to your personal one.

3 Grading Policy 3 1. Tutoring is highly recommended for your success in this class. Please come in during posted Office hours. 2. All grades are based on points that you earn over the semester divided by the total possible points. Points are earned from exams, quizzes, homework and labs. Please keep all returned materials until the end of the semester. This is to your benefit in case you need to question the tabulation of your grade. Homework is worth points each Quizzes are worth 10 points each Exams are worth 100 points each Extra Credit points are available on each exam and an additional 15 points may be earned from out of class activities or projects for the entire semester. Examples include: Volunteering through Service Learning, Soup Kitchens, Hospitals etc. See me for prior approval. Grading Scale: A 90% or greater B % C % D % F---Less than 60% All materials (lectures, labs, speakers) covered in class are open and subject to appear on quizzes and exams. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! Tutoring: Tutoring is highly recommended for your success in this class. Student Monarch Card is required. There is face to face tutoring at the Tutor Center located on the second floor of the AHS Bldg. Honors: For those students wishing for Honors credit and have applied by TAP Contract. On the day of every exam, you are required to turn in a 3-4 page report on a disease or disorder from any subject for that unit. The paper must be typed with double spacing and 1 inch margins on all sides, with a cover page and an appropriate reference page. Proper grammar and punctuation are expected. ed submissions will not be accepted. Late assignments will incur a deduction of 5 points per class session. Course Level Student Learning Outcome Student will be able to demonstrate the ability to utilize a good working function of the microscope. Student will be able to identify human body structures. Assessment Measure Students will be able to identify and demonstrate knowledge of the various organs and tissue types with the use of the microscope. A rubric will be developed to assess microscopic technique and competence. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of body structures by practical identification. A rubric will be developed to assess lab practical examinations.
