7 Inf ormation Master 39 Directions for the Missions Mission 1 Read Section 39.2 carefully, noting important details that might help you complete this mission. You will now receive information on the location of the briefing materials for your first mission. Once you know where this dead drop is, do the following: Have one partner retrieve the document from the dead drop. Stop at a few false locations on the way there and back to confuse anyone who may be watching. At the same time, have the other partner go to a decoy location to confuse any onlookers. Both of you should take a few sheets of paper with you so that it will not be obvious when one of you retrieves the real briefing materials. Consult Notebook Guide 39 to complete your Reading Notes for Section Mission 2 Read Section 39.3 carefully, noting important details that might help you complete this mission. CIA officials are concerned about a mole among your members. The location of the briefing materials for your second Cold War mission has been encoded to ensure that only authorized operatives will find it. To receive your next briefing, do the following: Have one partner go to one of the locations where the coded message is posted and copy the code onto a sheet of paper. Within the given time limit, decode the message to determine the location of the briefing materials. When you receive the signal, have the second partner retrieve the document. Stop at a few false locations on the way there and back to confuse onlookers. Mission 3 Read Section 39.4 carefully, noting important details that might help you complete this mission. CIA officials have received a tip that your classroom may contain hidden recording devices that are being monitored by Soviet spies. To obtain this briefing, you must locate one of the people in the room who have the briefing materials and execute a brush pass by doing the following: Take a scrap piece of paper from your notebook. You and your partner should each quietly approach one classmate at a time and whisper the password pelicans. The designated agents will respond with the password seagulls. Very subtly, to avoid detection by hidden cameras or microphones, exchange your scrap paper for one of their handouts. Continue to mingle with your classmates until you receive the signal to return to your seat.
