1 CIA Action Plan

2 CIA Action Plan The purpose of the CIA department in Durango School District 9R is to optimize academic achievement for all students. We do that by ensuring that EVERY student makes no less than one year s growth in a year s time, with students who are behind making more in order to close the achievement gap. Guided by our Core Beliefs and Beliefs about Learning, we will ensure that all students will graduate prepared for postsecondary education, college, and career, as a result of engagement in a rigorous and relevant educational experience. Core Beliefs With our help and support, ALL students can meet or exceed grade level expectations and become successful contributing citizens. We purposely engage all students in quality instruction in every environment. We create a positive environment for all that inspires commitment to the mission and vision of the district. We, as professionals in 9 R, seek to continue to grow and develop our ability to deliver a quality product and service to our students, their families, our colleagues, and our community. Beliefs about Learning All students can learn to proficiency or above. Learning is a constant process fostered by a growth mindset. Students own their learning through voice and choice. Learning motivates learning. Students must have a clear understanding of their learning goals. To achieve academic success, learning, assessment, and instruction must be aligned and driven by standards.

3 Key Action #1 Curriculum (What do we want students to know?) Strategic Goal: Optimize academic achievement for every student Major Improvement Strategy: Implement a guaranteed and viable curriculum as outlined in curriculum maps in ELA, math, science and social studies to ensure all students achieve at least one year s worth of growth or more, if needing to catch up. Develop a guaranteed and viable curriculum as outlined in curriculum maps in all other non core areas. Students will Articulate in their own words what they are learning and why. Articulate their goals and what their next steps are in their learning. Teachers will Use the district approved curriculum map to plan sequenced lessons/units aligned to foundational evidence outcomes (FEOs). Post daily learning objectives aligned to the depth of knowledge as outlined in the FEOs. Ensure that students know the objective and the purpose for their learning. Deliver lessons that are driven by the FEOs in the curriculum map to optimize student achievement. Learn and be able to articulate the curriculum map for their grade/course, as well as for previous and subsequent grade/courses. Collaborate with colleagues, focusing on the vertical alignment of instructional practices that promote academic achievement of the FEOs at each grade level. School leadership (school administrators and ILT) will Monitor teacher use of curriculum map in unit/lesson planning and provide feedback to teachers on their implementation. Monitor and provide feedback on the posting and alignment of the learning to the depth of knowledge (DOK) as outlined in the Colorado Academic Standards. Monitor and review data collected from district assessments and ensure instruction is aligned to academic achievement in the FEOs. Lead the development of a school based action plan for implementation of the curriculum maps. Designate specific site based PLC s for vertical collaboration to reflect on instructional practices that promote academic achievement of the FEOs. Support the training of staff in the use of the curriculum maps and provide professional learning time as needed. CIA will Develop a district wide PLC/PD calendar for the school year by August 1, Review available data and identify gaps in learning across grade levels Review and vertically align FEO s across grade levels and evaluate whether the FEO s selected are aligned to gaps in learning based on data and critical areas of learning. Publish curriculum maps that outline semester pacing for FEOs and create structures to communicate those to all stakeholders. Lead cross district ILT meetings to support implementation and refinement of the core curriculum maps across the district. Lead Curriculum Councils in WL, Art, Music, and PE in the development of curriculum maps and common district assessments. Provide professional development on how to effectively plan and deliver instruction that aligns with district curriculum maps. Use the New Staff Institute to support new teachers in effectively utilizing the curriculum maps. Provide reports on student performance data to teachers, principals, and superintendent that provide reflection on student achievement in the standards and the development of school based action plans. Identify other key learnings and resources (outside of current FEO s) to be included in the curriculum maps. Develop a long range plan for incorporating the curriculum maps and key resources into Infinite Campus. Create a system that regularly reviews curriculum program materials that support student achievement of the FEOs.
