3 Unit 3 Playtime LESSON Say Hello! (5 min) Greet the children and then sing one of the three hello songs: How many ways can you say hello? Hello, hello! Good morning. After that use the Lily puppet to ask the children how they are today. Activity book: page 15 Video: «Hello, hello!» / «How many ways to say hello?» «Toys song» «Buy-buy» / «Goodbye song» Flash cards: ball, blocks, board game, boat, car, doll, kite, plane, teddy bear, train Lilly Fox and Sammy Bear puppet, Some real toys 2. Activity What have you got in your bag, Lily? (5 min) Before the lesson prepare Lily s bag and put the toys flashcards inside (ball, blocks, board game, boat, car, doll, kite, plane, teddy bear, and train). Wear the puppet and ask What have you got in your bag today, Lily? Take out the flashcards one at a time, elicit/teach the words and put the flashcards on the board. Have the children chorus the words several times. Then take the word cards and put them next to the corresponding flashcards. Point to the word cards and say the vocabulary once again. 3. The toys song (5 min) Listen to the Toys song with the children. Ask them to try to remember the names of toys mentioned in the song. When you finish listening compare their answers. Next teach them the words. As you listen for the second time encourage the students to sing along. There are model cars And a toy guitar. There s a teddy bear And a doll with curly hair. In my toy box there are toys For every girl and boy. 4. Activity What toys have you got? (5 min) Put the toys flashcards on the board again so that the kids have visual support. Wear the Lily and Sammy puppets and role play a scene between them. Lily: Sammy, What toys have you got? Sammy: I ve got a big car, a train and lots of blocks. And you Lily, what toys have you got? Lily: I ve got a lovely doll, a big red ball and a teddy bear. Repeat several times if necessary until the children get the meaning. Then addressing individual children ask What toys have you got, (Anna)? Have the students reply using I ve got 5. Activity What s in your toy box? (10 min) For this activity you will need some real toys. Put them in different places around the classroom. Divide the students into two groups and give each group a big box. Tell them it s their toy box. When you say Ready, steady, go! the children should look around the room and put all the toys they can find in their toy box. After all the toys are in the boxes, tell the kids in each group to say what they have got in their toy box (We ve got a teddy bear, two cars, a train and a doll). You can ask more questions about their toys, e.g. What colour is your train? is your car big? etc. The team with the most toys wins. 6. Activity What s missing? (5 min) Draw the students attention to the board again. Point to the flashcards and elicit the vocabulary. Then tell the children to close and cover their eyes. Take away one of the flashcards and tell the kids to open their eyes. Ask What s missing? After the children name the correct word, repeat again with a different flashcard. You can invite volunteers to remove a flashcard from the board and ask What s missing? 7. Worksheet activity (5 min) Give each student a copy of the worksheet from the Activity Book and tell them to count how many toys there are. They should write the number next to the picture at the top of the page.

5 Preschool English (4 5 years) When they are ready check by asking questions, e.g. How many teddy bears are there? How many scooters are there? 8. Say Goodbye! (5 min) Tell the kids it s time to say goodbye. Have them say bye-bye to Lily and Sammy and sing one of the three goodbye songs: It s time to say goodbye Goodbye, goodbye! Goodbye song. 5

6 Unit 8 It the weather nice today LESSON Say Hello! (5 min) Greet the children and then sing one of the three hello songs: How many ways can you say hello? Hello, hello! Good morning. After that use the Lily puppet to ask the children how they are today. Activity book: page 51,52,53 Video: «Hello, hello!» / «How many ways to say hello?» «How the weather?» «It s time to say goodbye» / «Goodbye song» Flash cards: Sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, snowy, stormy, hot, cold, Lilly fox puppet 2. Activity Is it a good day today? (5 min) Wear the Lily puppet and make her look out of the window asking How s the weather? Is it a good day today? Some kids may come out with the answer (It s sunny and cold). Elicit all the weather words the students know, you can use flashcards from the previous year or pictures, but make sure you revise these words: sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, snowy, stormy, hot, and cold. Put the pictures or flashcards you use on the board and place the word cards next to them. Chorus the words pointing to the word cards. Finally find out what types of weather the students like and which ones they dislike. Ask Do you like rainy weather? Do you like sunny weather? etc. Make sure the kids answer with Yes, I do/no, I don t. 3. Song How s the weather? (5 min) How's The Weather? is a soothing song for talking about the weather. It's also a great chance to practise responding to simple yes/no questions. During the pause after the questions, Is it sunny/ rainy/cloudy/snowy? children have time to do the gesture, and also answer the question with a yes or no or a thumbs up or thumbs down. Watch the video and listen to the song with the children. As you listen for the second time encourage the kids to sing along and do the actions. Key Gestures: Weather Use the American Sign Language sign for weather: make a W with the three middle fingers on each hand and then twist them back and forth. Sunny Make a big circle over your head with your arms. Rainy Wiggle your fingers down in front of you, simulating rain. Cloudy Squeeze two imaginary pillows above your head. Snowy Move your hands down in front of you in a slow, wavy motion. 6 (Weather gesture) How's the weather today? Is it sunny? (Sunny gesture) Is it rainy? (Rainy gesture) Is it cloudy? (Cloudy gesture) Is it snowy? (Snowy gesture) How's the weather today? Let's look outside. (Put your hand above your eyes and look out the window) Is it sunny today? Let's look outside.

How's the weather today? 4. Activity Draw the weather (10 min) Give each student a copy of the worksheet from the Activity Book and tell them their task is to draw the weather in the boxes. They look at the word cards on the board and identify the weather words in the sentences, next they draw the weather using the symbols provided. You may need to help with this activity. When the children are ready, ask them to read the sentences, i.e. they look at their pictures and make sentences (It s windy today.) It is a good pre-reading practice as the children can see the written form of these sentences too. 5. Activity Weather walk (5 min) Stick pictures of different weather on the walls around the classroom. Ask the children to stand up and tell them you are going for a walk. Start marching and counting One, two, three, four, five, six When you count to ten stop in front of one of the pictures and ask How s the weather? The kids should reply e.g. It s sunny. Continue until you have stopped in front of each picture. 6. Activity The weather wheel (5 min) Use the template from the Activity Book to make a weather wheel for each pair of students. Put the kids into pairs and give each pair a weather wheel. Tell them they can see a bird dressed for different types of weather. Elicit what it s wearing in every picture, ask It s sunny. What s the bird wearing? (It s wearing sunglasses.) Students then work in pairs. The first person says the weather type and the second person should say what the bird is wearing or what it has got. 7

8 7. Letter V song and worksheet (5 min) Show the children Sammy s alphabet box, take out the letters the kids already know and put them on the board. Have the kids say the letters. Then watch the video and sing the Letter V song. Finally give each student a copy of the worksheet from the Activity Book and ask them to fill in all the circles that contain the letter V. 8. Say Goodbye! (5 min) Tell the kids it s time to say goodbye. Have them say bye-bye to Lily and Sammy and sing one of the three goodbye songs: It s time to say goodbye Goodbye, goodbye! Goodbye song. 8
