4 2. Languagenut Unit Overview 2015 Languagenut is designed to support teachers and students with the first four years of language learning. In total, Languagenut contains 1440 words and phrases in each language. The resources are organised into 4 levels of difficulty, and colour coded to reflect this. Within each difficulty level there are 6 units. Within each unit you will find 6 sections, as well as a song and story that are designed to engage students and give some context to the vocab they will be learning. Below is an overview of the units covered in the resources. You can find this overview on the site by clicking the selecting Content Map. icon located in the top right hand side of the screen and

5 3. Teacher Tracking Tool 3.1. Accessing the Teacher Tracking Tool Once you log in to Languagenut as a teacher the first thing you ll see is the teacher tracking tool. If you are in the resources then you can easily jump back to the Teacher Tracking Tool by clicking the icon on the right hand side and clicking manage students, or by clicking the desk icon in the bottom bar. The Teacher Tracking Tool is made up of the following sections: Dashboard Classes and Students Assign students work Scores and Reports Staff - Live My Content Support 3.2. Setting up class lists Setting up a class list in the Teacher Tracking Tool is quick and easy, and allows students access both at school and at home. As a teacher, you are then able to assign work to your students and have their progress tracked for you Go to Classes and Students in the Teacher Tracking Tool Click the green button create new class in the top right hand corner.

Enter your class name (e.g. Year 3b French). The class will automatically be assigned to yourself and any administrators on the account, but you can change this if you wish. If you have an existing class list in a Microsoft Word/ Excel etc you can simply copy and paste it into the Teacher Tracking Tool and the students individual login details will automatically be generated. Or if you prefer, you can type each student in individually If your names are displaying surname first, you can press the Swap button and this will put your list into the correct format Once you are happy with your list, click the I m ready create my class button Saving the class list will automatically assign your students their own login details to access Languagenut. You then have the option to download usernames as a spreadsheet, print as stickers, or delete the class.

Editing a class list If you need to amend a student s name, move them to another class or delete them from the class, simply find the student s name in your class list and choose which option you need. You can also edit the name of a whole class as they move up through the school Assigning work to students

8 One of Languagenut s unique features is that you can set and track your students work. You have the ability to assign to a whole class or individual students, to enter a completion date, and you also have the option to receive a report via after the work is due, detailing the students that have completed the work - a great time saving tool! Go to the Assign students work tab in the Teacher Tracking Tool To set a new piece of work click on the blue Assign new work button Find the work you would like to set by filtering through units or topics.

You then have the option to pick which of the key skills you want students to work on. Automatically all 4 will be ticked, but you can unselect any you don t want them to do The date range is set to start today and be due in 1 week, however you can edit this by clicking on the box and selecting the date you want You then have the option select which language you would like them to work on.

You can then choose if you would like to assign the work to the whole class, or just some selected students Once you have set a piece of work, once that work is due, your students will be notified when they next log into Languagenut You have the option to receive an on the due date listing which students have completed their work. You can switch these notification on or off in the top right corner Scores and reports The scores and reports tab is where all of your students scores will be recorded once they complete their tests. We ve also built in some great time-saving tools to make your life easier Go to the Scores and Reports tab in the Teacher Tracking Tool.

If you have more than one class list you will be asked to select the class you want to view. You can also choose which language, and unit you would like to look at The scores are all filled in automatically each time a student completes a test. The scores are colour coded, representing the bronze, silver and gold medals that they can earn A great way to motivate your students is to print out their certificates and present them at the end of each section these also work great at parent evenings or at the end of term. Do this by clicking on a single score to generate a certificate for that test only, by clicking on the stack of papers icon by the student name to generate all certificates for that student, or the stack of papers icon at the top of each column to generate the class certificates for that specific test. You can also use the certificate wizard to build all certificates earned over a particular time period (e.g. if you want to print all certificates out at the end of term).

If you scroll to the bottom of the page below your class lists you will also see the option to download your students scores either into an Excel spreadsheet or a report perfect if you want an easily accessible copy of their scores, or if you re looking to present your class scores quickly to another member of staff Setting up teachers and administrators Your Languagenut subscription allows use by all teachers in your school. Go to the Staff tab in the Teacher Tracking Tool Choose whether you want to set the user up as an Administrator or a Teacher the difference is that Administrators see all the classes on your Languagenut account, and teachers only see those assigned to them Input the details of the user you wish to add, and click the + button Languagenut Live The Live screen is great if you want to add a competitive and exciting element to your class, or if you want to check that students are doing what they have been instructed to do. This screen will show you who is online and offline and will show in real time, the medals being earnt by your students Go to the live tab in the Teacher Tracking Tool.

Choose the class list you would like to view and ask your students to login using their individual login details (you can find these in the Classes and Students tab) As your students complete work, a notification will pop up on screen, showing their name, avatar and medal earnt Creating My content (beta version)

14 The newest and most exciting feature of Languagenut is the My Content creator. After listening to feedback from teachers, you now have the option of tailoring your lessons to own needs. By uploading your own vocabulary, voice recordings and images, you can seamlessly enter them into the existing Languagenut game structure Go to the My Content tab in the Teacher Tracking Tool. If you haven t created content, you will see a brief video showing how it can be done Click on the Create New Section button Type the words in English and the target language Record your voice by clicking and holding. Release the button to save Upload any images from your computer by clicking on the blank picture box and then finding the image on your computer. Please note that uploaded images work best when they are square, as they are cropped to fit the box. To change an image, click remove and then find the new image you want to put in. When changing an image in a saved section, the original picture may appear to still be behind the new picture. However, once saved, this will disappear.

Once you are finished click the blue Save button to save your content without publishing it. Alternatively, click the green Save button to save and publish your content. Your content will now be visible in resources under a new fifth, purple dice.

16! Please note, in the current beta version all of the sections (images, voice and vocabulary) must be filled in in order to save. If you are unable to complete all of these sections we advise filling them in temporarily as you can return to edit them at a later date Accessing the Resources To access Languagenut s resources from the Teacher Tracking Tool simply click on the Jump to resources button in the top right corner. You can also access the resources via the dashboard tab. 4. Languagenut Resources 4.1. Instructions for using Languagenut s resources When you log into the resources for the first time you will asked to pick from either the MFL or EAL Please choose your desired language. Your subscription allows access to all the languages available.

The first time you select a language, it may take a little while to load please note this only happens the first time so please be patient You are now on the resource homepage. From here there are 3 ways to navigate the resources: Filter by topic If you are teaching a certain subject, filtering by topic allows you to quickly view all resources available. For example healthy eating will be located in Food. Search bar Using the search bar allows you to filter all available resources by keywords. For example, type in colour and you will see all topics related to that subject. Clicking on a topic will reveal all sections relating to that subject. The sections are colour coded by difficulty.

18 Filter by difficulty - The dice at the top of the screen demonstrate the difficulty level varying from beginner to advanced. Clicking on a dice will show you the 6 units available for that level Once within the unit, you ll see that each is further broken down into 6 sections, with a song and a story to go alongside the content.

Accessing Languagenut Games When you click on a section you will see the screen below:

When introducing a new section to your class we suggest using the Presentation section first to introduce the words Our games are then designed to drill and reinforce the vocabulary that they re learnt, whilst keeping students engaged. You can now select from a wide range of games which are broken down into the 4 key skills as above We also have a large range of printable resources available and ready to download for each section. These include flash cards, wordsearches, picture snap cards, vocabulary snap cards, dice and vocabulary tables Click on Test Selection to view tests. These will be the tests your students will be completing when you assign them work, and they will be bought to this section when they log in if work is due. The tests keep the same game structure, ensuring that pupils are still engaged and enjoying the process Languagenut Game Instructions Listening Games Listen n Learn No words here, just sound! 27 The student can then navigate Languagenut s resources in the same way as the teacher does, but will not have access to the teacher tracking tool Students can change their avatar at any point by clicking the monster icon on the bottom right of the navigation bar Students Work Once you have assigned work (see page 7 on how to set work), this will be visible to students when they log in, if the work is due. The student then has the option to do the test straight away, or to practice with the games first.

Once the student clicks on the work box they will be directed to the test When they complete tests, their scores will then automatically update in the Teacher Tracking Tool and on the Live Screen in the Tracking Tool area. Depending on their score, students can earn Bronze (50-60%), Silver (70-80%) and Gold (90%-100%) medals which will count up in the middle of the navigation bar. 6. Contact Us And that s it!
