What you know already You should already have studied the material presented in Math 1090; roughly linear equations functions matrices inequalities quadratic functions the exponential function and logarithm elementary finance 4. The textbook The textbook is Ronald Harshbarger and James Reynolds, Mathematical Applications, sixth edition, Houghton Mifflin, New York, NY, which is available from the bookstore. 5. Equipment Some questions in the homework will require a calculator or computer. You are responsible for carrying out these problems as far as you can without electronic aids. No problems on tests or exams will require calculators or computers, and none will be allowed.

3 2 QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS 6. Grading All tests will be held in the classroom at the standard class time. Task Percentage of final grade Homework 10% Test #1 10% Test #2 10% Test #3 10% Test #4 10% Test #5 10% Final exam 40% Homework assignments are due the next class after they are issued. No late homework or projects will be accepted after the beginning of the class when they are due, without a request from the dean. All homework assignments, tests and exams are to be completed independently by each student; only original work of the student whose name is on the assignment may be submitted for grading. Missed tests (or final exam) can not be rescheduled without a request from the dean. 7. Tutoring Free tutoring is available in the Mathematics Tutoring Center, which will open Monday, January 13. Hours are 8:00am 8:00pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8:00am 4:00pm on Fridays; closed weekends and holidays. If there are any questions, please contact: Angie Gardner Director of Undergraduate Services gardiner@math.utah.edu JWB 112 There is also tutoring available from the University Tutoring Center, Student Services Building SSB 330, They provide one on one tutoring for a reasonable fee.
