As one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, the population of Texas has increased by 12.7 percent, almost double the increase of the nation. Our expanding population is becoming less rural and more diverse. These changes require business and community leaders and educators to provide the education system we need to compete in a global economy. Serving as a TEPSA state officer would allow me to further address the growing needs of the increasingly diverse students in our public schools. Our school children need and deserve the best that we offer as educators. Despite our many gains in the field of public education, we have much work ahead. I graciously accept the challenge of hard work. ALL students should have the benefit of a head start in education, beginning with PreK. My passion for all students in the state of Texas and my enthusiasm for public education will help me promote the needs of our students, teachers, and administrators. Through TEPSA s far reaching networks, we are able to work together as a team for our children. Thank you for your vote! When I reflect on the power principals wield, it is far reaching and at times indescribable. We encourage students and teachers every day. We feed when our students are hungry, cheer when they are learning to read, and love them unconditionally. Our actions always make a statement, for the school community looks to us for guidance and leadership. How fortunate we are to have TEPSA, as we inspire educational reform. I pledge to represent your needs, as I take note of the various challenges each of you face. In addition, I will be eager to foster a positive working relationship with stakeholders and policymakers in Texas. I believe the best way to forge this connection is through the celebration of our success stories. Relationships are the key to all facets of our profession. Furthermore, I will continue to support, as well as expand the networking opportunities we cultivate though our organization. I will strive to meet your leadership and professional development needs through conference opportunities and technology possibilities. Each day is a challenge as we balance all aspects of leadership in our profession. Moreover, courageous leadership flourishes in an environment in which we strive to do what is best for all students. I joined TEPSA because it is the professional organization which best represents my educational philosophy. As I grew more active in the organization, I became a local officer. I wanted my voice and the voice of my teachers, parents, and students to be heard. TEPSA has helped me understand how I can be an advocate for the future of education. This organization has opened doors by linking me with others who share my beliefs. Through my TEPSA association, I have seen that changes can come about through positive advocacy and common goals. I know that I can be an asset to this organization as its State Secretary. I am willing to stand up and be heard. I want to help TEPSA s voice be heard. I was taught and inspired by teachers. Without a great public school system, this may not have happened. It is our duty as professionals to protect the rights of students by providing a safe, caring, and nurturing environment in which all kids can learn. As federal, state, and local mandates are handed down to districts, we sometimes lose our focus.we must not forget why we truly joined this wonderful profession. It is our calling that we ensure the future by ensuring successes in the present. Please consider me as your choice for TEPSA State Secretary. Thank you. Karen Meadors, continued from page 2 Asst. Since 1998 TEPSA has provided me with information, training, and network opportunities to become a successful school leader. I whole heartily support the values and beliefs of TEPSA along with its commitment to improving education and work conditions. If elected as a TEPSA state officer, I will continue my work to provide the highest quality leadership, resources and support for school administrators as they work day in and day out to positively impact school children across our great state. As a TEPSA District President I am grateful to have worked with school leaders throughout our state for the continuous improvement of public education. I have also had opportunities to discuss issues with state legislators about quality education for all Texas students. This past summer while attending The Principal s Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education I worked alongside principals from all over the world as we addressed concerns of funding, resources, student achievement and engagement, and advances in technology. As diverse as our schools and students are, we all face the same obstacles to provide the highest quality education for all students. TEPSA is our voice to state and federal policymakers as they make decisions that affect school children across the nation. Teaching is a work of heart and I pledge to passionately serve each of you. Thank you for your vote!
