The department follows lecture method in regular class room teaching, apart from seminars presentation, power point presentation, debates, field trip, interviews and visiting of archives and museums 39. How does the department ensure that programme objectives are constantly met and learning outcomes are monitored? The department council is keen in the periodic assessments in which all the faculty members ensure the programme objectives. 40. The students and teachers of the department actively participate in the departmental seminars, workshops and discussions along with the similar programmes organized by other departments in the campus. Apart from which, the faculty members have been contributing in diverse ways such as presenting papers periodically, provide extension lectures in other departments, colleges, delivering public lectures, contributing papers and articles to print media, take part in discussions and debates in visual media etc. 41. The research out put of the Department has been instrumental in shaping the historical understanding of the Kerala society as a whole. By following the scientific and rational methodology of research, the Department could offer reconsideration of Kerala's past which was partly mythical or based upon legends. The department publishes the research output by the way of papers in department journal, Journal of South Indian History in many other academic publications. 44.
